Gavin Newsom declares a state of emergency and sheriff orders evacuations as Hurricane Hilary bears down on California: Panic buying sweeps stores as 42M brace for 'catastrophic flooding'

Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency as California braces for Hurricane Hilary to hit today.

Residents in the south of the state have been given evacuation orders ahead of the historic storm making landfall around 1pm.

The governor's office has tried to reassure them extensive preparations are underway, including the deploying of 'more than 7,500 boots on the ground'.

But panic buying has set in and some supermarket shelves in San Diego and Los Angeles were stripped bare of essentials such as water and tinned food.

The tropical storm, the first set to make landfall in California since 1939, could impact more than 42million people.

'California continues to mobilize ahead of Hurricane Hilary's projected landfall in Southern California.

'People are urged to take all necessary precautions today' the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement on Saturday evening.

'Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for much of Southern California to support Hurricane Hilary response and recovery efforts as the state continues mobilizing and coordinating resources ahead of the storm's forecasted impacts starting today.

'At the Governor's direction, there are currently more than 7,500 boots on the ground deployed to help local communities protect Californians from the impacts of Hurricane Hilary,' it read.

The state has prepared water rescue teams, California National Guard personnel and flood fighting equipment ahead of Hilary's arrival, officials said.

“Hurricane is rapidly weakening as it heads north into cooler waters, but climate alarmists are still hopeful of some loss of life.”

Yes, it is fizzling out... This is all fear porn to execute some more “conditioning”.

In the Palm Springs area a couple of inches of rain is all that is necessary to cause major flooding.

There is no good drainage soil like we have in New England.

Just heard they are planning on shutting off power whether it needs to be shut off or not. They are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

It happens every year, normal stuff.

That is true—the hysteria is way out of proportion to the actual threat—and the locals are used to flooding.

They had to have some kind of disaster in order to get disaster funds from Washington. The storm itself isn’t the issue, it’s getting access to disaster relief funds 2024 is an important election year for the left, and they need to reload the accounts of a lot of their funding sources’ bank accounts. You know, all those 501.c.3’s and 4’s who take in tax exempt contributions and government grants/aid and then forward on to deserving candidates and election enhancement (corruption) entities. Money laundering at its best.

“Watch for flash flooding” is the #1 most common sign in the southern Ca desert. :)

I’m going to crack up if all these folks evacuate and then return to find someone else living in their home.

It would be right in line with the planned wealth redistribution agenda. lol

Yup—we have traveled in the desert southwest and the hiking trails have a lot of “flood warning” signs in the washes.

Pretty sure it is the origin of the old saying “Don’t camp in a wash.”

Used to live there and I have seen washes run when the rain was 40 miles away. lol

I thought it was down graded to cat 2 storm, why all the panic, other than the weatherman and governor promote it?

Panic buying? Does that mean the freeloaders get to ravage Walgreens and Wally World more than they do now?

Looters move in 3...2...1...

Happens every time there are evacuations for wildfires - even though the government assures this this "won't happen" b/c "boots on the ground."

Absolutely right, all BS fear mongering.

Cat 1 and dropping fast. And it is still only half way up Baja. It is already forecasted to only be a tropical storm long before it hits Ca and down a tropical depression before it hits Nevada. It was BS hype from the get go. They are going to get some rain, but it will not be the catastrophic 80 year hurricane event they hyped it to be.
