With only a quarter of the Maui wildfire burn area searched, the death toll of what’s already the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century still could rise significantly, Hawaii authorities said Monday.
At least 99 people have been confirmed dead from the wildfires, and the number could double over the next 10 days, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green told CNN Monday.

The real issue was the fire dpt. From what I heard, they had a brush fire they thought was controlled and they left. The winds blew it back up and fried the town. Also, a good amount of the dead are kids as they were staying home while their parents were away at work. This is horrific and it was caused by the usual incompetence.

I don't understand why if you know an Island area is on fire and there's hurricane winds coming why you wouldn't leave the area to another part of the Island. Keeping tank full and other basic actions to secure yourself BEFORE waiting for government? If you smell the smoke you darn well need to bail the area.
