Sen. Tommy Tuberville places hold on first proposed female ascending to the ranks of the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff

Monday was meant to be a historic day, one in which a woman for the first time ascended to the ranks of the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Instead, the Defense Department will mark a more sober milestone. With the retirement of Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday, for the first time in U.S. history, interim officers are filling three of the eight seats on the Pentagon’s storied board of most senior military members.

So Monday brought a different sort of handover ceremony. Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the vice chief of naval operations and the nominee to replace Gilday, assumed the role in an acting capacity — with no idea of when she’ll be confirmed.

The remarkable situation is thanks to an eight-month blockade on military promotions put in place by Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who opposes a new Pentagon policy on paying for service members to travel to another state to receive abortion and other reproductive services. More than 300 senior officer nominations are now on hold due to the standoff.

with my 71 years of observation, including 10 years in military service, I, for one, would not agree nor accept a “HBIC” over JCS.

Good.

Anybody who wants to use taxpayer money to fund abortion is complicit in murder.

As I read this thread, I expect to find a few "FReepers" who are complicit in murder.

And no women running the military.

That's a good start ...

The Navy should never be lead by a female.

Neither should the Army, the Air Force, the Marine Corps, the Space Force, any State's National Guard, or the Coast Guard.

Other than that, women leading the military might be OK ...

Maybe ...

Not really sure about that ...

I didn’t think you could get any worse than Milley he set a standard for insibordination, playing politics and doing massive damage to the US military. But it’s apparent the upper ranks are full of perfumed princes, bigots and Marxist. We are so screwed...

I thought that the Tommy Tuberville endorsement was stupid. Can a football coach be a decent Senator?

I was wrong!

Is there a reason for that?

Brown spent his whole tenure of CSUSAF bitching about how hard he had to work and how there ought to be racial quotas for officers (pilots specifically). He is actively proposing a limit on white male officers.

This recalls the era of "MacNamara's idiots" only this time we will give them F-16s instead of M-16s.
