TIPS FOR THE PITS
We have all been there....Blue Monday. Nothing is more miserable than feeling depressed. Depression has been, and continues to be, the world's #1 public health problem. All of us are susceptible to depression. It all begins with the blues, which come and go like the common cold. The "Poor Me" syndrome hits us and drags us to the pits of depression. What are the signs of depression? Dragging through the day, wondering how we will get through it; getting bogged down at the least little obstacle; thinking negatively about everything; all we see are pessimism and gloom. It's looking at life and seeing only emptiness, hopelessness, and no way out. But friend, there is hope! Let me suggest tried and proven help from Scripture. These are "Tips for the Pits". 1....We must first check our thinking. Often we feel the way we think. We must live by our convictions, not by our feelings. God can work even our present situation into a positive good for us. "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Positive belief always destroys negative, depressive doubts. 2....You can't keep any feelings from coming to you, but you can determine how you will manage them. Do not offer bad feelings a lounge chair. Instead, allow God to lift and cleanse your mind to a higher, more positive level. 3....No mood can be your master. Allow God to be your only Lord. As your mind is fixed on God, you will find your strength renewed. You can keep yourself "encouraged in the Lord". You are important to others. You are needed. Your life matters and has importance. Jesus believed it enough to die for YOU! 4....Decide to be a source of encouragement to someone else. The written Word of God tells us, "Anxious hearts are very heavy, but a word of encouragement does wonders". "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths." Watch what happens to your depression when you encourage someone else! Prayer: Holy God, what power is available in a few simple words of encouragement. Remind me to be an encourager in the lives of others for the good of both of us. Amen CDR Stephen W. Seelig, CHC, USNR-R

To: All
Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7 & 8

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

A Different Approach
I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
1 Corinthians 9:22When Mary Slessor sailed to the African nation of Calabar (now Nigeria) in the late 1800s, she was enthusiastic to continue the missionary work of the late David Livingstone. Her first assignment, teaching school while living among fellow missionaries, left her burdened for a different way to serve. So she did something rare in that region—she moved in with the people she was serving. Mary learned their language, lived their way, and ate their food. She even took in dozens of children who’d been abandoned. For nearly forty years, she brought hope and the gospel to those who needed both.
The apostle Paul knew the importance of truly meeting the needs of those around us. He mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:4–5 that there are “different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit,” and “different kinds of service, but the same Lord.” So he served people in their area of need. For instance, “to the weak [he] became weak” (9:22).
One church I’m aware of recently announced the launch of an “all abilities” ministry approach complete with a barrier-free facility—making worship available for people with disabilities. This is the Paul-like kind of thinking that wins hearts and allows the gospel to flourish in a community.
As we live out our faith before those around us, may God lead us to introduce them to Jesus in new and fresh ways. .
Reflect & Pray
What unique way to reach out to others has God placed on your heart? How will you accomplish it?
Dear heavenly Father, please give me wisdom to find the right way to help others.

Howdy, Kathy.
What a drag it had to be a cloudy day up there. It would have been nice to sit on the deck a little while and soak up some nice, warm sunshine.
