Maui County experienced $5.52 billion in “capital exposure,” which is the estimated cost to rebuild following damage by the Lahaina Fire, according to an updated damage assessment from the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) and FEMA on Saturday.

Firefighters battling Maui’s ferocious wildfires that killed at least 80 people and leveled entire communities have made some progress in containing the blazes, while search and rescue crews continue efforts to recover more bodies Saturday as the death toll is expected to climb.
Officials do not know exactly how many people are still missing after wildfires earlier this week began eating through neighborhoods in western Maui, where one fire reduced much of the historic town of Lahaina to ashes.
The blazes, fanned by powerful winds from Hurricane Dora hundreds of miles offshore, have become the deadliest natural disaster in Hawaii since statehood in 1959.
As of Friday evening local time, all three fires were still active after initial reports came Tuesday. And while there have been some improvements in containment, the risk of flare-ups remains.
People in Kaanapali were evacuating Friday night after spotting a fire in the neighborhood, which is about 4 miles north of hard-hit Lahaina, Maui police said. The fire was later 100% contained, according to county officials.
Of the three largest wildfires that crews have been combating, the deadly fire in Lahaina was 85% contained, Maui County officials said Friday afternoon, up from 80% reported the day before.

In Lahaina alone, “upwards of 1,700 buildings” were destroyed, the governor said, and it would take years to rebuild the historic town."
Did they figure out it was started by another eco-terrorist yet?
Who wants to bet the democrat controlled state of hawaii will magically get billions from the federal government?
Didn’t they say some of it was abandoned ?
Little doubt in my mind that it was arson. We will just get a shrug and an “We don’t know how this happened” from officials.
Sorry, that money is going to Ukraine.
In all seriousness, I think they will get the help they need.
I would be leery of strings being attached via rich persons.
In reality, at least double that amount.
Perhaps Biden should send money to Hawaii instead of Ukraine
They absolutly will get billions...Oprah and other celbrities have homes there so the billions will likely funnel through as well to other places on the Island.
So glad the insurance companies separated FL, CA and HI from the common risk pools that covered the rest of us who do not have tin and wood shacks valued at 1M dollars.
Hopefully the insurance companies will drive everyone to take care of the wildfire fuel that the folks in CA and HI let stack up on their doorstep.
“Too bad, Ukraine needs that cash.” -Joe Biden

Yep. Did they catch the arsonist? All else is mere prelude. Catch him. Try him and fry him. It’s past time to get medieval with the ubiquitous lawlessness in America.
Or developers. Easier to buy up the lots now that the owners are homeless and have no where to live.
That anyone died is an abomination.
It’s a ridiculous amount of money. Either they have fire insurance, or they don’t.
Likely don’t and if they do they’ll still cheat as people did in Covid and any other disasters who money is passed around.
That’s nothing compared what we’re throwing away on the Ukraine.
Not my concern. - Pence
Put Tulsi in charge of it.
