“There have been many people who would have made excellent Presidents that just are not likeable enough on TV or at rallies. They just don’t have the prospects to get wide popularity with a nation of morons. Unfortunately the criteria most people use to choose are stupid stuff like surface appearance or honeyed voice. With our current totally unserious culture I’m pretty sure George Washington couldn’t get elected.”

I have been a DeSantis supporter because I think Trump can’t win the general election. Over time, I see that DeSantis just doesn’t show any passion. He is a solid conservative and has done very well in florida but I see no fire and that is what would grab voters. Now that he is slipping, he is turning more political as in being weak with regard to the election being stolen. I will support Trump against any lefty, but I fear for the general election. MAGA is out numbered.

It’s just so hard. I do believe he was the best president in our history. Reagan was second. But it still peeves me that he bashed McCain right before the 2020 election after he was dead two years. Yes there was cheating, but how many Arizona voters got pissed hearing trump bash one of their own? They loved the guy voted for him 30+ years. And he told conservatives not to vote in the Georgia run off election in January 2019 because he got mad at the two republicans running. Ok they weren’t great. But I’d rather the senate to stop some judges than the free for all Biden now has. Those are just a few of my issues with him.

The Republican Party isn’t even on life support anymore. It is flat-out dead. We are still waiting for the medical examiner to sign the death certificate, but the GOP as a political force is lying on a slab in the morgue.

Donald Trump’s emergence in U.S. politics is all the evidence you need for this.

I don’t know about that. I see lots of Republicans sitting in office and raising lots of campaign cash. I see Trump sitting on the beach powerless and performing his political reality show. If anything is substantively dead here it’s Trump’s brand of outsider politics. It is without legislative initiative and has been reduced to flipping the bird at The Man.

Trump won in 2016 because those “stupid trailer park conservatives” — who abandoned the Republican Party in droves after 2004 — finally found a GOP candidate worth supporting.

From my profile page …

"What Americans want, what the GOP base in particular truly desires, is a president who looks at them the way that Mike Pence looks at random Ukrainians."

“This country is done whether Trump wins or not. At best, Trump might slow the decline.”

Unfortunately it is time to face reality and stop fooling ourselves...

If a Democrat wins they will be Communist.

If a Neocon wins they will be Communist.

If Trump wins he will be handcuffed by Communists.

There is no way to change the reality that we are now a Communist nation and it is never going back with elections let alone in a peaceful manner.

We are in a lose, lose, or lose situation. The deck is stacked.

I recall Trump bashing McCain about his service way back in '15 or '16. That was one of the few Trump tweets I've never defended.

I don't recall Trump's 2020 bash of McCain. I'm guessing I thought it was appropriate at the time.

What was it?

“Assuming he were to win, will he staff his cabinet with squishes because the conservatives might disagree with his policies?”

If he wins he will be handcuffed by both sides and will have no power to fix anything at all.

It’s too late.

I see lots of Republicans sitting in office and raising lots of campaign cash.

That sure isn’t my definition of “success” by any measure. I suspect a lot of them are only Republicans because they are in places where they can’t win as Democrats.

One or 2 polls, sure. Could be manipulation. But this many polls over this extended time?

No, we’re talking trends here in popularity that cross demographic lines and political boundaries. Trump is well regarded among a growing number of Americans of all stripes.

In my opinion, President Trump will be the Republican Party nominee—in or out of jail.

Agree. In hindsight DeSantis should have waited until 2028.

My comments weren't that she should've waited. Personally, I'd have *loved* to see a Trump/Desantis ticket in 2024 and then Desantis going forward.

Now?

Ain't. Gonna. Happen.

Whoever Desantis is listening to, he needs to stop. Like yesterday. Even then, too late for his campaign in 2024 and he's likely done enough damage to himself for 2028 with some of his flip-flops.

If he'd been the Ron Desantis on the campaign trail that he is in Florida and his ability to shoot from the hip, state the facts and crushed the liberal idiots in the national media as he'd done in Florida, he'd be doing much better.

But he's not and someone's gotten to him, giving him horrible advice. Shame. He could and should be doing so much better. I'd much prefer a competitive Republican race where all the best ideas come out. That's what we should have, and that's what we deserve. That's what the COUNTRY deserves.

Agreed.

The primary is NOT over.

That said, I would prefer for Americans unite behind Trump.

I am in favor of dismissing all charges against Trump, and eventual construction of a Trump memorial to honor the many good things he accomplished as President.

But I also question the emotional stability of anyone under indictment who would publish an ambiguous threat in all caps “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!”. If I was Trump’s lawyer I would strongly consider leaving his case.

What would be best for the USA is for Trump to withdraw from the Presidential race, and let one of the many able Republicans running for President try to defeat the evil Rats in 2024.

Time to count chickens. Why waste time waiting for them to hatch.

I love Trump. Would not even consider voting for DeSantis. But there is a process to go through.

"...What would be best for the USA is for Trump to withdraw from the Presidential race... "

Why do you refuse to see this just happens to be the rinocrat establishment plan all along?

"..and let one of the many able Republicans running for President.. "

Oh? Name a few. Name ONE. Name one that isn't on the payroll for the sole purpose being a Trump ankle biter.

"...try to defeat the evil Rats in 2024."

Problem is, the evil rats that back-stabbed Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, Pat Buchanan, Sarah Palin, etc... Many key figures wore the "republican" label. Whose interests were/are being advanced? Yours? Mine? Doubtful.

Yes, I know the "evil Rats" have degenerated into a demon possessed hive mind. This does not give us the luxury of pretending we will get satisfaction by electing the republicans who feed at the same trough.

“Why do you refuse to see this just happens to be the rinocrat establishment plan all along?”

I think Biden’s plan is to goad Republicans into nominating Trump, who is the only Republican he can beat. That’s also the opinion of Senator John N. Kennedy of Louisiana.

I you don’t like Desantis, then nominate Reynolds or Burgum or Noem. A re-elected Republican governor who has experience getting their legislation passed would be ideal in my opinion.

What "poll" suggests Trump losing to anyone?
Why aren't other "republican" candidates being being set upon by storm troopers or being arrested?

".. don’t like Desantis, then nominate Reynolds or Burgum or Noem."

We don't nominate candidates. Big donors do that through the parties they OWN every bit as much as they OWN the candidate.. Let's take a guess.. Of all the presidential hopefuls, which one leads in small donations? (Figuring totals AND as a percentage of donations)

To look at all this and come away with your conclusions is seriously delusional.

>>> “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!”

A human reaction; a way that many might react. Which, by the way, is something Donald Trump, especially when he’s in campaign mode, is known for: counter punching. You’re a friend unless you attack him. Then all bets are off.

His enemies are playing for keeps. His reputation, his legacy, his very freedom is at stake here.

I don’t fault him for shouting out his anger. I probably would, too, in the same situation.

“Forget it... It is done, it won’t be Trump. The “faithful” will not vote for a “criminally accused” Trump even if he is the primary winner and no matter how wrongfully accused. They will throw their vote away instead.

To drag us all into the fire while claiming self-righteous morality is selfish immorality and it will be our downfall.”

What a pile of crap and all the polls say otherwise and most pollsters don’t even like Trump. The people will speak and they will mostly vote for Trump (some Dems, many Independents, and the vast majority of Pubs). You are not paticularly politically astute, are you. That’s right; you aren’t. Just another anti-Trumper showing it for all to see.

Anyone not rally around Trump is the enemy.

For eight years this has been a battle between the base of “the Republican party and Republican establishment and most of its donors. And, the issue is, will we have party that represents conservatives or one that is party of an oligarchy compromised of donors and the establishments of both parties.

There isn’t another Republican running, with possible exception of Vivek Ramaswamy (and that is big if considering his position on the TPP), that isn’t in align with the Republican establishment and donor class.”

BINGO. Exactly right. And bears repeating, which I just did above.

“Trump has been kinder and nicer to squishes like Graham than he has been to conservatives like DeSantis. Trump loves those who pay him homage.”

With Graham, Trump subscribes to Machiavelli’s concept of “hold your enemies closer.” Trump knows who Graham is, but in certain circumstances Linda is useful and is a good debater. Better to use him when necessary and neutralize him so that he is not an overt enemy like another good debater Chris Christie. Luckily Christie visually is a big slob, more of a nobody, not in a position of power like Graham and therefore can do less harm.
