UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States would continue to do "whatever is necessary" to ensure Russia can freely export food if there was a revival of a deal allowing the safe Black Sea export of Ukrainian grain, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday.

Russia last month quit the July 2022 deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey aimed at easing a global food crisis after Russia's invasion of Ukraine five months earlier. Ukraine and Russia are both leading grain exporters.

"In the event of return to the agreement, of course, we'll continue to do whatever is necessary to make sure that everyone can export their food and food products freely and safely to include Russia," Blinken told reporters at the United Nations.

"We want to see that food on world markets. We want everyone to benefit from the lower prices," he said after chairing a U.N. Security Council meeting on food insecurity caused by conflict.

Russia has no reason to believe he is telling the truth.

I recommend they wait for Biden to announce it. And be prepared to shut 'er down again.

Shouldn’t each Country be “Sustainable” and thus independent on being able to feed itself?

He had that chance. For months we refused to reconnect their agricultural bank back onto SWIFT, we helped the Ukes use the grain shipping lanes to attack the Kerch Bridge, Sevastopol, and the Black Sea Pipeline. We also use the grain lanes to deliver weapons.

Then after a year of this, they refuse to renew the deal and everyone is amazed.

A HUGE famine is coming to poor countries. Not only did Russia export huge amounts of grain, they were the largest fertilizer exporter in the worlds.

Poor countries cannot by fertilizer and they can’t buy food. And, the US State Dept is trying to pretend they are not responsible.

Agreements mean nothing to these people and they certainly had multiple chances to act like adults so no. Let there be a little bit of hunger in the general population for a little while. It may snap people out of their MK Ultra conditioning.

Exactly, Very few of us knew what was happening. Seems Vlad has outsmarted the US again, it takes old boomerang Joe awhile to get it.

The bigger question is what did the US have to concede or lose in the secret talks that ensued? ….it is obvious, once again, Vlad holds all the cards.

No. One of the basic principles in Economics 101 is that a country should produce what it is good at producing, relative to other countries. If one country is good at producing beans and another country is good at producing bullets, then both countries will overall benefit more when they trade beans and bullets.

---- "Shouldn't each Country be 'Sustainable' and thus independent on being able to feed itself?"

Kudos for exactly the correct question.

A HUGE famine is coming to poor countries. Not only did Russia export huge amounts of grain, they were the largest fertilizer exporter in the worlds.

This is the key. Sub-Sahara Africa has plenty of productive farmlands, but they require fertilizer imported from outside the continent. See what happened in Sri Lanka when they tried to grow crops without fertilizer.

Seems to me the US and our middlemen have been cut out of this equation.

Blinkin is an example of amateur hour at the Department of State. Stick to just running Biden’s campaigns fir election.

If amateur, a greedy one.
