What if We’re the Bad Guys Here?
nytimes ^ | 08/02/2023

Posted on 08/03/2023 5:09:48 AM PDT by devane617

Donald Trump seems to get indicted on a weekly basis. Yet he is utterly dominating his Republican rivals in the polls, and he is tied with Joe Biden in the general election surveys. Trump’s poll numbers are stronger against Biden now than at any time in 2020.

What’s going on here? Why is this guy still politically viable, after all he’s done?

We anti-Trumpers often tell a story to explain that. It was encapsulated in a quote the University of North Carolina political scientist Marc Hetherington gave to my colleague Thomas B. Edsall recently: “Republicans see a world changing around them uncomfortably fast, and they want it to slow down, maybe even take a step backward. But if you are a person of color, a woman who values gender equality or an L.G.B.T. person, would you want to go back to 1963? I doubt it.”

In this story we anti-Trumpers are the good guys, the forces of progress and enlightenment. The Trumpers are reactionary bigots and authoritarians. Many Republicans support Trump no matter what, according to this story, because at the end of the day he’s still the bigot in chief, the embodiment of their resentments, and that’s what matters to them most.

I partly agree with this story; but it’s also a monument to elite self-satisfaction.

So let me try another story on you. I ask you to try on a vantage point in which we anti-Trumpers are not the eternal good guys. In fact, we’re the bad guys.

If Trump suffers a fatal head wound and recovers, then I would get worried.

Why not try to understand what the pro-Trumpers actually want rather than mischaracterize us as bigots, reactionary, etc.
That's not who we are at all. It's just the usual Leftist smear tactics.

“We as a nation seem to need only those who are actually opposed to the way the nation is being run now..to have made the right choice. Mr. Trump is one of those.”

We, as a nation, have been “marginalized” and effectively silenced... considering that what “we” want doesn’t matter any more. In fact, quite the contrary... it will be the criteria which the radical left Marxists use... to demonize us further, and probably... at some point in the future.... to gather us up and rid themselves of the little problem that “we” and what we want presents to the communists currently in charge of running and ruining the nation.

“We” may be in the majority... but the radical left, the fringe minority, are in control of things in America right now.... after seizing power in an election theft coup. And we are letting them destroy the nation right out from under us... as we witness outrage after outrage... and it will only get worse from here. As the famous saying goes...“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”.

I read the whole thing and there is a bit of understanding that these elites, of whom he is one, are entitled, smug, arrogant twits who make rules for others that makes them feel self righteous but that never affect them personally.
“Trump’s many crimes” are not explained but I found the article to be rather amazing.

I wish these people who are in favor of “progress” at any cost would learn about Chesterton’s fence.

Maybe Brooks gets filed under useful idiot rather than bad guy, I don’t know.

As for this article, he actually makes some decent points. He says what’s driving loyalty to Trump is that average people see him as persecuted by the same elites who look down on them and have rigged the system against them.

But of course he has to open with some annoying throat clearing, because when you’re the NYT’s pet conservative you have to do that, and then he closes in the worst possible way, by denying the injustice of the Democrat lawfare against Trump which anyone can see is malicious.

Personally, at this point I would vote for Trump even if he were in prison. Mainly because I want to see him dish out a proper reckoning for the grand evil of Russiagate.

“Republicans see a world changing around them uncomfortably fast, and they want it to slow down, maybe even take a step backward.”

Why would anyone possibly want to take a step backward from the fecal-stained streets of Democrat San Francisco, the blood-covered sidewalks of Democrat Chicago, the tent-dwelling homeless filling the neighborhoods of Democrat Los Angeles, the fires and riots of Democrat Portland and Seattle - shall I continue?

I don't want to go back to 1963.

I would like to go back to 1985 however.

The article is available here: https://dnyuz.com/2023/08/02/what-if-were-the-bad-guys-here/

The thing that stands out most is how the author repeatedly refers to himself and other he considers “in his class”. The elite, the educated class, upscale, part of the meritocracy, highly educated, superskilled, the professional class. Those he considers beneath him are “less educated” and live in “the world down there”.

Been saying since the regime seized power, there is only one law effectively being enforced going forward: Opposing the Democratic Party.

David Brooks fancies himself an intellectual. Of course, an intellectual is simply one who has been educated beyond their intelligence.

One major thing that changed in the 1970s was DRUG USE.
Yes, we had MJ and other hard drugs like heroine but it was not nearly as wide spread as it is today. Being an addict was looked at as extremely negative. It only affected a very small percentage of people even in poor areas. Now we have heroine addicts in the suburbs.

Probably because the cartels were not as organized. Cocaine, Crack, Meth, Oxycontin, Meth, Heroine and now Fentanyl have absolutely decimated cities and even the countryside in Appalachia.

Addiction is now looked at as a disease. Give them treatment and money to live on. Give them clean needles and places to shoot up.
It is alright not to have a job and collect welfare because you are a victim of your disease. This has directly led to the explosion of homelessness and crime. Plus a permanent underclass of people that live off of government checks. Which has made living in most cities dangerous.

Maybe all by design. Keep the sheeple medicated and placid

I agree accept you have to be clear. Biden is not running anything. He can’t even figure out how to get off stage or where he is. The people running the country are behind Biden. And they are evil.

More BS from the NY Slimes. Don’t paint this as Neanderthals resisting change. Truth does NOT change. These Demonrats and Republocrats are liars and hateful people. They accuse conservative Americans of the traits that are deeply held by they themselves.

Mitch is 81 - Pelosi is 83. Lord, save us from aged narcissists who refuse to release the reins of power. Newt Gingrich, Speaker of the House and my Rep. 20 yrs. ago, is 80. He did a great job but whoever coined “Age is just a number” was wrong. Biden is Exhibit A for anyone with ears to hear and eyes to see.

[[1. Why is this guy still politically viable, after all he’s done?]]

What has he done? He didn’t I cite an I surrection like all you lying psychopaths have suggested- he didn’t collude with Russia like all you lunatics claim he did and still claim he did EVEN AFTER it has been lroven he didn’t! He didn’t say nasty racist things like all you nutjobs on the left claim he did, but you know who DID say nasty racist things? Yup, your candidate and messiah Joe Biden! He didn’t commit crimes and abuse his power while in office like we are finding out that Joe and his son have done!

So what exactly has he done nyt? YES YOU ARE THE BAD GUYS IN ALL THIS! Lying deceitful psychos who are hell bent on sending an innocent man to prison for life because he simply loved this nation and tried his best to help us get back to our greatness potential as a nation! Wake up ya blockheads! Quit trying to Imprison every republican president! WORK TOGETHER for the good of the nation and quit the tyranny that you are imposing on conservatives!

Holy crap.. this author is certifiably insane!

Let the author chew on this: the political party that made money worthless is now the holder, in his eyes, of the most money. The richest.

And he thinks he’s the smarter person in the room! The very wealth they hold is the same they made worthless!
