America’s ban on incandescent light bulbs, 16 years in the making, is finally a reality. Well, mostly.
A rule issued in 2007, rolled back by the Trump administration, and updated last year by the Biden administration, effectively bans the sale of common incandescent light bulbs. The rule went fully into effect Tuesday, August 1.

The rule passed by President Joe Biden’s Department of Energy in April 2022 states that light bulbs must emit a minimum of 45 lumens per watt. A lumen is a measure of brightness.
That effectively outlaws the manufacture and sale of common incandescent bulbs, the kind you screw into the vast majority of light sockets in your home. That’s because traditional incandescent bulbs provide just 15 lumens per watt, according to light bulb manufacturer Philips.
By contrast, most LED bulbs will get you 75 lumens per watt, or more.

Okay, overall this is a big yawn. I've converted all my light bulbs to LED over the last few years, saving money, the newest work fine, even better in some cases.
Fascists.
Sometimes it’s good to have heat with your light.
Now that the demand for them will be going up, expect LEDs to become even MORE expensive.
The Biden administration will begin enforcing a nationwide ban on various types of popular light bulbs Tuesday as part of its aggressive energy efficiency agenda.
Under the Department of Energy's (DOE) regulations, manufacturers and retailers will be prohibited from selling incandescent and similar halogen light bulbs which represent a sizable share of current light bulb supplies. Instead, manufacturers and retailers must sell light-emitting diode, or LED, alternatives or risk substantial federal penalties.
Interesting note in the Fox News article: only 39% of ouses with income $20,000 or less use LEDs. First off, what not-on-the-dole family earns less than $20,000?
An LED won’t warm your chicken coup or keep you well pump from freezing.
Same here. I converted to LED before they told us we had to. I like them better. They don’t get as hot either. That’s important with pets in the house. I can turn the light off and unscrew the bulb without having to wait or get a potholder. They seem brighter too.

Huh? I just leafed through my copy of the Constitution. Nowhere does it say that a cabinet department has the power to make laws.
Oh, wait. It has the force of law, but it’s not a law, it’s a rule.
Never mind.
I know they're improving, but not fast enough.
Compact flourescents were a disaster. LEDs a big improvement. Of dozens I have, I don’t think any have failed.
I have fully converted to led.
It’s a better, cheaper source of light.
My question is, where in the constitution is the power to regulate light granted to the federal government?
You’re not supposed to be eating chickens and that well, isn’t that water belong to the public, not your private use?!
Went to Ace Hardware yesterday and purchased one 40watt bulb for 3.99. Everything was sold out. Went to another store and there was nothing. I hoarded about 20 packs of 100 watt bulbs years ago, thank goodness.
EGGSACKLY!............
Not enough 30/70/100s though.....
If LED’s were superior, incadescents would have disappeared years ago!

LED lights will flicker ten times as much when I run my generator. An incandescent bulb will be much more forgiving for minor fluctuations in the supply.
Is there a hotline so we can snitch on our neighbors and get them swatted?
HATE LED lights. Too bright and white and not warm at all. And, the annoying flickering when the bulb is about to go out.
