Why electric vehicles are ‘piling up’ at dealerships, despite massive taxpayer subsidies

Ford Motor recently announced it is slashing prices on its F-150 Lightning, an electric vehicle the company rolled out in 2021.

The Lightning now carries a suggested retail price of $49,995, about $10,000 lower than its previous recommended price tag ($59,974), a reduction the company says is possible because of lower “battery raw material costs and continued work on scaling production and cost.”

It’s certainly possible that reduced overhead from battery minerals and production costs played a role in Ford’s decision to trim its price tag by nearly 20 percent, but that may be only half the story.

Several reports show EVs are not exactly flying off dealership lots. In fact, there’s a glut of them.

“A lot of older parking garages are posting prohibiting EV’s because the building wasn’t designed for the extra weight. “

How many is a lot? Please cite.

4 gallons of gas has more energy then the entire battery pack of the electric Ford F-150.

About 5 months ago I was driving in Connecticut going south on I-95 near New London and got caught behind a oil truck that flipped over and exploded. I was stuck in traffic for TEN hours!! That’s how long it took for me to get off I-95 and get to another highway.

Around 6 to 8 hours I started noticing cars were being abandoned by the side of the road, then more and more of them. What were they? ELECTRIC CARS. And there was no way anybody could come and pick these people up, so these people must have walked forever to get help. I called up local motels all of them were booked, so these people with electric cars were basically effed unless they lived in the area. Screw those things.

The 1989 model year Fiero GT was one very bad-ass sports coupe. The brand damage had been done though and they weren’t going to save it, despite the 89 being a flawless vehicle. If you can get your hands on that last year production run, you’ve got something special.

“Imagine keeping one of these things on street parking in Boston or New York or Chicago..”

That would be cruel to the catalytic theft industry.

We went out to dinner last night on a company dime. The valet parking refused any EV. They were using an indoor parking garage which has banned EV parking.

I have to tell my Boston street parking story (from many decades ago).

I went to college there and my wonderful grandmother allowed me to take her old car to college with me.

I parked it on the street and never had any issues.

I was rather naive at the time—but when one of my classmates saw it they started cracking up...

You see—it was a purple Cadillac and the locals were convinced I was a pimp.

Even $30,000 is within my means

That's about right for us, so a couple years ago we paid cash for an inexpensive car to ferry us to the market, the kids' homes, and our sundry appointments, and pocketed the difference. When we go somewhere far we rent an SUV.

1MLK Parking garage. I’ll take a picture next visit in front of the Valet stand. It could be over theft, security, etc....The curb parking has private police services contracted. It could be to keep a better watch?

Same here. A 20 year old Toyota Corolla does us just fine.

To: technically right

The physics can’t be denied. Driving against the wind, driving up hill, and towing are EV Killers. It’s all about Battery Weight. They weigh 30% more at a minimum.
