Ford Keeps Losing More Money Making Electric Cars No One Wants
Front Page Mag ^ | 7/28/23 | Daniel Greenfield

When will shareholders ask Ford to choose between Klaus Schwab and their money?

No one except the state wants them. And who cares what consumers or shareholders want? Not Ford.

Back in March, I wrote that, “Ford reported that it’s going to lose $3 billion on electric cars in 2023. Unlike most automakers, Ford reports its electric vehicle numbers separately, but experts estimate that most car companies are losing similar amounts on the dead end business.”

“Ford plans to make 2 million electric cars every year by 2025. That would be impressive considering that Ford only sold 61,575 of them in 2022. It sold 3,624 electric vehicles in Feb 2023.”

And the numbers just keep getting worse. It’s now a loss of $4.5 billion.

#47 The makers of electric cars lie and lie about how great they are.

It Turns Out the Driving Range of Electric Vehicles Is Even Worse Than Advertised
https://redwave.press/it-turns-out-the-driving-range-of-electric-vehicles-is-even-worse-than-advertised/
Electric vehicle manufacturers have exaggerating the driving range of their vehicles by more than twice as much as advertised in some cases, according to a study by SAE International.

On average, electric vehicles (EV) fall short of their advertised range by 12.5%, according to a study by SAE International. The study included 21 different brands, and revealed that EV manufacturers as a whole inflate the range of their vehicles far beyond their actual capabilities.

Tesla seems to be inflating the numbers far more than other brands. SAE International revealed that the range displayed on Tesla vehicle’s dashboard is 26% lower than the car’s ability.

To: Tell It Right

The reason we initially bought the BMW was because it was a certified used car, had every option that was available on the i3 and at the time, nobody wanted EV’s we paid less than $20k for a $60k car with 7,000 miles.

We only drove it one winter and it was fine. We live in a rural location in Michigan where the side roads are the last to get plowed and we had no problems when we had to drive it. I also had a 4-wheel drive pickup and a hybrid so we had options.

One of the biggest issues we found was the dealers were starting to install chargers but would block them with inventory or in one dealers case, put up a basketball backboard for their service department employees so you couldn’t access the charging station. When it’s the only charging station in the area, it doesn’t help

We would use Charge-Point to plan a trip and there are a few municipal high-speed chargers around, but unless they were in a designated area, we found ICE cars filling the spots.

Our local utility had about 20 charging stations in their parking garage that were rarely used, but the garage wasn’t available nights and weekends.

The City the utility is in has only 1. It was in the middle of the busiest section of downtown and parking was a premium. It was always filled with an ICE vehicle.

Our local hospital has two charging units, both are filled by employee EV’s on a daily basis.

Our son lives in a town where Charge Point has 2 chargers at the library. At least there the City has it set up where if the car is at the charger longer than 30-minutes after the charge is completed there is a “parking” fee that is rather hefty.

So charging away from home was always an issue.

The only reason we sold the BMW is because we brought our hybrid back from Florida when we sold our property there. We didn’t need the extra car and by then used cars were a premium and Carvana bought the BMW from us for more than we paid for it. So it was a win-win in that regard.

I would have purchased the ID-4 had the dealer been willing to deal on the car. He wasn’t and so we went another direction.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one. My BMW was great because with the range extender I had the same options as an ICE vehicle. If the battery started getting low, it would switch to the engine. Although it was only a 2-gallon gas tank, it would get me an additional 100 miles or to the next gas station.

My complaint is with government mandating EV’s. What works in the city may not be best for a rural situation and vice-versa. Let ME decide what works for my driving situation, not a legislator who hasn’t driven a car in years or has some lobbyist greasing his palm. The free market is the best indicator of success or failure. Not the government.

That mom, and all the Ford workers has had DECADES to get the mafia/crooks/criminals/communist out of the UAW. The UAW is still one of the biggest enablers of the democratic rot in the US. The only way to take down the evil UAW is to take down the companies that are unionized.

Toyota will do BEV for the American and Euro markets. But Toyota has a new CEO who has commented in March that he thinks hydrogen is the way forward. Hydrogen is not an energy source, but an energy carrier. So the million dollar question for Toyota is how will they make hydrogen cheaper than batteries? One possibility is a new generation of nuclear power plants. Electrolysis gets an efficiency boost with superheated steam. Something a next gen nuclear plant can be built to do.

My opinion is that given the inherent insane costs of transitioning to a fully electric fleet, I think the CEO of Toyotoa is correct. In any event, oil isn’t going anywhere for the next several decades.

Aren’t most UAW members now nurses and healthcare workers? The “Big 3” have been decimated in the auto markets over the last 30 yrs.

Are you saying they don’t sell them and just advertise them? I would have to disagree as my wife bought a new one about 2 months ago.

I agree with both of your assertions, that hydrogen is viable and that Toyota will be among the last to fully convert out of ICE, simply because they are the IBM of Japan.

Hybrid uses the 2.5L non-turbo “Atkinson-cycle” 4 cylinder.

The 2.5 has 162 hp, but when combined with the electric drive motors, totals 191. Torque for the 2.5 is only 155, but with the added electric motors, you can add 173 for a total of 328 lb-ft.
The 2.0 ecoboost turbo has 250 hp, and 277 lb-ft of torque.

The 2.0 Ecoboost is designed to operate over a wider RPM band, whereas the 2.5 that is included with the hybrid is a design that has a narrower power band, but good efficiency. It matches nicely with the continuously variable transmission, whereas the 2.0 has an 8 speed auto.

I think the Escape offers a plug-in electric/hybrid that is a good compromise for commuters that take a trip from time to time.

Nobody’s buying them. Demand has gone down the toilet for $50k cars and up. EV’s are falling way short of expectations, crap resale, and cost a fortune while burning your house down.

Take a look at the Chinese EV’s. Toyota’s Chinese car isn’t selling at all and they are laying off in China.

I’m hoping they get depreciated enough to pick up one for a runabout around town, sort of like a better equipped golf cart.

All new car sales are down, thanks to Bidenomics and the practice of dealers marking everything up sometimes $20 grand over sticker. I’ve personally seen that mark up.

Average sticker price is way up. Average F150 last month was $65k+.

They are only building high option vehicles leaving the $30k and below to used cars. Jeep has over a year’s worth of unsold inventory on most models, Chrysler and Ford is close to that too on some models.

Auction prices are way down because of repo’s, but retail has only dropped 10% after a 30% run up in 2020. There’s a long way to go down.

You see that pattern repeated everywhere.

My favorite is California banning charging vehicles because of power shortages.
