As concerns grow about the health of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky state laws have already guaranteed his potential replacement will be a Republican.

First, they would find the biggest RINO...
Same process as replacing p-lousy, finesteen? They also need to be put to pasture. Actually there are a lot that need to be put to pasture.
What if the current Democratic Governor selected McConnell’s successor to be his opponent for governor a conservative black Republican to be the next Senator
Yes, they do...but such laws are arguably not constitutional.
Defeating Beshear would be the only guarantee.
The Senate Minority Whip is John Thune (R-SD). Does he become Minority Leader or would Senate Republicans elect new leadership. Don’t want Cornyn as Minority Leader.
“What if the current Democratic Governor selected McConnell’s successor to be his opponent for governor a conservative black Republican to be the next Senator”
That would only happen if the governor’s opponent is one of the nominees that the governor must select from (chosen, as I understand it, by the Republican leadership).
it’s not a constitutional matter. it’s legislated by the state.
Envelopes. The process is technically called envelope exchange.
As dictated by the constitution.
They waited all of 2.3 seconds from his seizure to begin talking about replacing him.
biden has been chomping on little girls, feeling up popular female singers, speaking incomprehensible nonsense, yelling at staff, siccing his dog on staff and selling out this country to the chicoms and ukraine, and no one is talking about removing him from office.
So we get Horizontal Harris, the royal screwup. Wouldn’t be any worse than what we have now.
I hope not.
Mitch was one of the worst RINO’s in DC. (let alone in KY)
His replacement could be chosen from a list of registered republican voters who have regularly voted in every national and state election for the last 20 years. Couldn’t really do worse than what we currently have.
The blue-lip turtle is in the checkout line. Who ever replaces him will be a plus. He does a lot of damage as the minority leader.
Any RINO would get a glowing endorsement from DJT
37 states have the governor pick the replacement, and they define how that replacement will occur. Either by picking someone from the same party, or up to the digression of the governor, and some offer up other requirements as well.
Vacancies in the United States Senate
So, where are you getting your information from?
It would be one of three. I always thought it would be Massie until this year. He’s been a disappointment. The thing that pisses me off is someone who is not 100% sure of finishing out his/her term. Can’t count on the process being safe, especially as the term goes into the later years-think who’s governor.
I’d like all of our senators to self term-limit themselves to 2 terms. They get stale. Think Thune/Linda. There are exceptions like Johnson(Wi) and Collins. Sometimes you just need to keep the seat. Voters(primary) are too lazy to think ahead. 12 years will hopefully keep them from dying in office.
And therein lies the problem…
