AMSTERDAM, July 26 (Reuters) - A fire blazed on a ship off the Dutch coast with nearly 3,000 vehicles on board on Wednesday, killing one member of the crew and injuring several others, the coastguard said.
Dutch broadcaster NOS said all the crew were Indian.

This ship will be the second one full of vehicles to be lost.
The electric vehicle party is OVER. They will soon be uninsurable and not possible to ship anywhere in the world.
Upon becoming uninsurable, EV’s will not be eligible for financing as lenders will have a major risk of total loss on EV loans.
Electric vehicles are a huge risk, ready to ignite at any time without warning.
EV’s will be banned from using ferries and parking in public garages. Local ordinances will prevent them from parking in private, single family garages or public garages. There might be laws passed to prevent EV’s from being parked within 200 feet of any structure.
Walmart might prohibit their parking as a result of the risk of damage or loss to other vehicles parked near the EV’s.
This is the kiss of death for ships transporting electric cars. Why? Because on the open seas the people with the last word are the folks who insure ships.
Entire country will be in high risk pool. Exorbitant premiums for all.

I guess they could make special slots on the ship for electric cars, from which they can be ejected into the sea in case of fire. But that will raise the transport costs.
I wonder if the insurance companies will say, to heck with that, we will learn to code?

My guess is the culprit is the constant demand for increased battery capacity. All these batteries have a chance for a catastrophic discharge, and the larger the capacity, the more catastrophic the discharge.

That sounds exactly the same problem all fire fighters have with burning EVs. Those fires are extremely hard to put out, and they can reignite multiple times.
I believe there are more than two ships that have been lost.

**If you’ve ever been around ocean going vessels you become aquatinted with the damage that the continuous salt spray causes. Even living close to the ocean is problematic.**
In the late 80s the local midwest Cessna dealer sold a C182 to a customer in Coastal Mass; which was delivered by the salesman (who was also a flight instructor). The trade-in was a C172, that looked decent from the outside. When back home, and after the mechanics had opened all of the inspection panels to seal to deal, they had the salesman come and look at what he flew back. His face went pale when he saw the rotted wing ribs. His voice shaking, he said: “and I flew this thing in really rough turbulence over western Pennsylvania”.
Turns out the owner had opened a few select panels for the salesman that didn’t show any serious corrosion. After letting the seller know that some Mass aircraft inspector was probably going to be in trouble for signing in the logbooks that the plane as airworthy, a deal was made. The seller had to pay for having the wings being rebuilt.

Add in lithium batteries, stir in some politics, then blame it all on anything but the real cause.
Insurance companies demand a government bailout and a new government insured risk pool.
Slide it all under the rug.
Taxpayer pays for everything - and in Europe, with its VAT system, they can pay for it a couple of time.

Interesting, no government control on the high seas. This reinforces my belief that the powers that be never wanted or never intended to allow us mere peons to leave our 15 minute communities.
