Russian Lawmakers Approve Bill Raising Maximum Draft Age
The Moscow Times ^ | 25 July 2023 | Sergei Vedyashkin / Moskva News Agency

Posted on 07/26/2023 8:43:02 AM PDT by MeganC

Russian lawmakers on Tuesday passed a bill raising the upper age limit for military conscription and banning draftees from leaving the country, as Moscow continues its efforts to widen the pool of potential recruits for its war in Ukraine.

Under current Russian law, all men aged 18-27 are required to complete a one-year term of compulsory military service, a requirement that has been in place since before the invasion of Ukraine.

Amendments published on the day of the bill’s third and final reading would raise the age limits for this compulsory military service to 18-30 starting in January 2024.

The changes do away with the original amendments — which had been endorsed by President Vladimir Putin in December — that sought to gradually raise the lower and upper age limits over a period of three years for compulsory military service to 21-30.

“The wording of the draft law has changed due to the serious demographic situation that affects the volume of [Russia’s] mobilization resource,” Andrei Kartapolov, the bill’s co-author, told Interfax.

“Better than 18-60.”

Good thing you were born in 1860 and need not worry about it!

Sign of numbers dissolving. I would imagine if you brought in 1,000 Russians...between alcohol/drug issues, bad health, or mental competence....all one thousand will be proclaimed ‘good enough’ for the war. So you send the thousand through two weeks of boot camp...maybe two weeks of combat marginal training, then deliver them to some Colonel and a dozen majors to fight. Odds are...a hundred are dead in the first ten days of combat.

Makes you wonder about the economy surviving and if they will have to allow massive migration to occur.

“...if they will have to allow massive migration to occur.”

I expect China will shortly begin massively migrating into the relatively defenseless Russian Far East.

I believe that was the range in Germany during the last desperate months of the war. I wonder which side (Ukraine or Russia) will go full Volkssturm first.

...and to think, all of this death and destruction is the result of a stolen election(coup) in the USA

it sux that the USA is at war with Russia for no legitimate reason other than selfish politician money laundering.

I had a lady who cut my hair who escaped from the fall of Saigon tell me that she thinks the sole reason for the Vietnam war was that giant US textile corporations owned by US politicians wanted absolute control of the textile industry in South Vietnam, today the textile industry is booming in South Vietnam

I don’t want to see Russia conquered. I want it eradicated.

Two things:

1. Nixon predicted Russia invading Ukraine back in 1996. Several articles about that posted here on FR.

2. The Russian war against Ukraine started in 2014, well before the 2020 election.

3. Vietnam has oil and gas and those were bigger issues during the Cold War than textiles were.

“I don’t want to see Russia conquered. I want it eradicated.”

I stand by that statement. Russia wants to erase Ukraine and in return I want to see Russia erased.

Or they can end their war and go home. Either is acceptable to me.

So, somebody needs to help explain this to me.

You have compulsory service between 18-30 for 1 year.
Once your have been in the military, you can be recalled to age 60 in Russia, 70 if you were an officer....

Does that sound like some kind of lifetime trap? Or is it saying that you shouldn’t do your military service until age 29/30, so you only have another 30 years exposure?

IMHO, there might be fewer wars if the global draft age was 60-90...

Russia has been talking about this within government for months. This will result in another 250k in Belarus. Russia will train another 1m soldiers by year end. Finalstrength is 2.1M with all new equipment by January 2024. Organization under 3 or 4 Corps of 600k.

Back in the 1930s retired Marine Corps general and Medal of Honor winner Smedley Butler wrote a book about that sort of thing.

They can change the law any time they like. So everyone is possibly subject to conscription at any time. The lawmakers in the US would do the same thing if personally threatened.

They are conscripting cannon fodder absent an experienced cohort of NCO’s...which their military model abhors.

In short these will be lambs to the slaughter.
