The newly-elected mayor of Jacksonville has allocated $500,000 in the Florida city’s budget to remove a monument dedicated to women who lost loved ones serving in the Confederate army.
Donna Deegan — a progressive Democrat who toppled her Republican opponent in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ backyard — had pledged to topple the monument and lined up the dollars to do so.
“We are looking at all potential options and Mayor Deegan remains committed to removing the Springfield Park monument,” her spokesperson, Philip Perry, tweeted.
Erected in 1915, the monument is one of the last Confederate memorials remaining in Jacksonville, the nation’s largest city in terms of contiguous land mass.

Understand that it’s not because it’s a Confederate (related) statue, it’s just a statue.
Statues infer “inequality” because someone is being honored and others are not.
That’s why even Abe Lincoln’s statues have been bad-mouthed by mindless leftists.
Hey donDUH, 🖕. My kin folk fought on the union side against the rebs and I vote to keep the statue. Maybe someone could set aside 500k to remove you from office in a recall.
She’s easy on the eyes. Used to getting what she wants.
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
― George Orwell, 1984
For 500 grand? What, nuke it from orbit? What a waste. Moronic Marxist race-baiting at play here.
Don’t rub it in, I live here.
She has absolutely ZERO political experience.
Her “claim to fame” is she’s an ex news reader on a local NBC affiliate that divorced her sportscaster husband on the same station and immediately took up with the weatherman on the same channel....with children getting caught up in the middle of all that.
As far as the Confederate statue, she can set aside all the money she wants, it’s up to the city council just like it was during the last mayoral administration......they didn’t decide it then and I don’t see that changing.
I place removing monuments in the same category as book burning.
A recall cannot begin until the targeted official has served at least one-fourth of his or her term in office.[1]

Jacksonville Taliban.
Newly-elected Jacksonville Dictator
So she thinks it’s worth a half a million of the folks’ money to get rid of a statue and show her hatred for the country.
“Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. “
Just saying…
It’s not necessarily the amount; it’s who gets it. Remember, these are democrats.
Book burning is always associated with the Nazis, and it is therefore a bad thing. I have always thought so, but one day I saw a comment from someone who told me what books the Nazis were burning.
It was all stuff about gender fluidity and how homosexuality was normal, "minor attracted person's stuff, and so forth.
We have been led to believe that the books being burned were essays about the rights of man or political philosophy. Nope, it was disgusting stuff like they are trying to put into our libraries nowadays.
Made me start to look at the whole idea differently.
I don't know if what the commenter said is true, but if it is, it shines an entirely different light on it, doesn't it?
Because pissing away money instead of using it wisely, is the Dim thing to do. SMH.
Who are all the Democrat voters in Jacksonville who elected her? Relocated ex-New Yorkers and the Puerto Ricans who overran Florida the last time their island took a hurricane hit? Nobody talks about how the two million of them screwed up Florida’s schools, hospitals, doctors offices and grid lock on the roads along with their insane driving habits. Every other car you see now has the Puerto Rican flag flying from the rear view mirror. But DeSantis just wants to be President.
important stuff!!
Question: Who legally owns the statue?
Establish legal ownership in a way that provides for a vote to destroy or not.
No government action unless by a legal vote. No court ruling unless one utilizing the results of a vote by the people.
OR….one more element of history eliminating by ‘decree’.
