Sen. J.D. Vance has introduced legislation that would make gender-reassignment treatments for minors a federal crime.
Mr. Vance’s bill, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, would ban gender-transition surgeries, puberty blockers, hormone treatments and other transgender-related medical care from being provided to minors.
People that administer gender-change treatments to children would be charged with a federal class C felony, which carries a sentence of 10 to 25 years in prison.
The bill prevents federal funding from going toward transgender surgery or treatments, including blocking Affordable Care Act insurance plans from paying for the procedures. Mr. Vance’s measure would also ban universities from teaching about gender-reassignment treatments, and prevent illegal aliens that performed transgender-related medical procedures on children from getting visas.
“Under no circumstances should doctors be allowed to perform these gruesome, irreversible operations on underage children,” Mr. Vance, Ohio Republican, said in a statement. “With this legislation, we have an opportunity to save countless young Americans from a lifetime of suffering and regret.” ***

The democrats lost Abortion and now they want Spay/Neutering of children so they can’t have children
The rainbows will be up in arms. Meh!
Good for Vance. This measure should be good for about 6-8 sponsors.
I got into an argument with wack job sister-in-law who opposed letting a child tattoo their face but supported child genital mutilation. I haven’t talked to her since and I don’t plan to ever again.
Life is too short to deal with mental cases and progressives….but I repeat myself.
In a better adjusted society, this would not have to be legislated...
Yes, repubs are very good about introducing legislation when they’re the minority and there’s no chance of it passing. Then when they have a majority, they don’t do squat or some Romney or McCain screws us.
Bad move, JD.
This gives cover to vulnerable rats in tough reelections. They can vote for this bill then cheer on Biden when he vetoes it.
EC
I appreciate the sentiment behind this, but I don’t see how these surgeries touch on interstate commerce. They can certainly withhold federal money, and maybe attach some strings to who gets that money. All kinds of demons will be up in arms over this bill which has no chance of becoming law. If this was part of a plan to marginalize Democrats by making them defend child mutilation, then it would be a good move. I don’t think that the GOP is capable of doing that, so it looks like a J.D. Vance solo move. Good. Just means we need more like him.
It will force politicians to have recorded votes which will be used in the next election.

…“A lot of people have done what is the worst thing you could do, which is to harm their children irrevocably....... Those people will have to believe that they did the right thing for the rest of their lives, for their own sanity, and for their own self-respect. So they’ll still be fighting, and each one of those people destroys entire organizations and entire friendship groups.

“But the fact is that just simply by saying we will never accept natural males in women’s spaces, well it is their son that we’re talking ab out. And they’ve told their son that he can get himself sterilized and destroy his own basic sexual function and women will accept him as a woman. And if we don’t, there’s no way back for them and that child.
“They’ve sold their child a bill of goods that they can’t deliver on.“
They cannot fix their children. The children their “fixing” has ruined for life and whose fixing has ruined their lives.
They have to live in denial and lash out. Or they can’t live with themselves.
But doing so allows the “fix” for more children.
It is so twisted.
So evil.
ENOUGH.
I'm sure the MSM will politicize it like they did to Florida's don't say gay law which incidentally doesn't say gay anywhere in the text.
The rats can say it effects a minuscule number of people. They’ll be able to sweep it under the rug.
There will be massive disinformation.
There are lots of problems with the bill.
“ban gender-transition surgeries, puberty blockers, hormone treatments”
The federal government lacks the constitutional power to regulate surgery in the states. It only has the power to regulate surgery in US territories, military bases and DC.
While the federal government can regulate interstate commerce drugs, there are legitimate uses for “puberty blockers, hormone treatments” in some minors.
“blocking Affordable Care Act insurance plans from paying for the procedures”
The federal government lacks the constitutional power to regulate health insurance it does not subsidize in the states.
“ban universities from teaching about gender-reassignment treatments”
Banning teaching violated Amendment I and is unconstitutional. That should be true in every subject matter, including bomb making and anti-tyrant military combat training.
Constitutionally, isn’t this a state issue?
the goal isn’t for this to pass it is to gin up a campaign issue for the next election.
I believe it does have something to do with population decrease.
I’m confused here - why is the state getting involved here? Shouldn’t the decision to cut off a kid’s dick be made between the Munchausen Mom and the Money-Grubbing Doctor?
In regard to it being a states’ rights issue, I’m sure there must be something in federal law that prohibits this. I leave it to the legal scholars.
If we have to do it state by state, it will take forever and some states won’t do it. It is fundamentally wrong, so there must be a solution.
