We Need an Amended Pledge of Allegiance Again

(Jul. 19, 2023) — Amending the Pledge of Allegiance is not an unprecedented or trivial event. It has occurred several times previously when an improvement was created by those devoted to making it better and more powerful. What will be proposed within this article clearly adds great benefit to the Pledge because the United States Constitution is at least as worthy as, and maybe even more than, the flag for all Americans to pledge their loyalty and adherence to.

As is detailed within that reference, the Pledge was not written until 1892. It was amended in 1923, officially adopted in 1942, and amended again in 1954 to include the words “under God.” After that there were several lawsuits filed to delete those words and all were dismissed.

The amended Pledge of Allegiance being proposed herein is to add four words and change one pronoun from “it” to “they” as follows: “I pledge allegiance to the flag and to the Constitution of the United States of America and to the republic for which they stand, one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

An excellent idea and truly worthy of bringing this to the attention of our U.S. Senators and Representatives for consideration, as well as to the attention of President Trump for his consideration to help give the idea legs. These suggested small changes to the Pledge of Allegiance would help educate our children when they learn it.

I do not support the “pledge” as written or with this amendment because it seems to contradict the plain duty of citizens set forth in the Declaration of Independence as follows:

“ That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness… But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--

I’ve always hated the pledge of allegiance.

I certainly don’t need to pledge allegiance to my birthright - the law of the land - and progressives certainly won’t pledge to something they believe also needs rewritten.

IMHO this is dumb.

The Russians had the right idea...

What does this actually accomplish?

I think what we really need to do is hang a few people from Congress or the Bureacracy who’ve violated the oaths they took, which would hopefully make the rest of them think twice before doing so again.

We didn’t have one our first hundred years. It was started by a socialist. It has a collectivist air about it. They used to say it while doing a nazi salute until that had to end in 1942. I read that changed to the hand on heart thing in 42. Pappy Boyington was in China with the Flying Tigers AVG when that change happened. He was at a ballgame and didn’t put his hand over his heart. Some locals wanted to fight him!

The Founders didn’t need one...maybe we don’t.

Okay, your opinion is fine w me, my FRiend.

I happen to love and support our pledge of allegiance, and furthermore, I see no reason to alter it.

Even a little.

So many of this 70+ year old's wonderful memories of 1950s elementary education are from patriotic songs and our wonderful pledge.

I learned so very much at a fine early age.

Personally, I would ditch “indivisible”. It’s time to cull the herd (expel some states or parts of states).
