I tried out one of those auto-pay stores in an airport years ago, just to see what it was like. Just to get into the store I had to show it my payment information.

I don’t care if it’s “racist”. It’s always the same hood rats doing this. It is time for severe beatdowns. Being nice isn’t working. Blaming in on overzealous policing only makes it worse. We’ve seen what happens. Some people need more discipline than others it seems. Is that racist? Where are all the white and Asian people robbing stores? We know this is deliberate. Politicians know decent people will soon demand the government “do something”, and we know what happens next. Carry a weapon and be prepared to use it. I don’t think modern day white folks have the nerve to regain control of their cities.

A lot of the casual looters were getting robbed of their loot by gang members.

The local farm stands are mostly on the honor system. You pull in, take the produce you want and put the cash into the box provided. If you don't have the cash, you can scratch an I.O.U. on a pad of paper and the expectation is you will come back later and pay it after you get the cash. Some of them are even posting bar codes so you can scan them and pay through Venmo (smart).
This is the world I don't mind living in. Everybody trusts that everybody will do the right thing.
A few years ago, I was at a hardware store with a good friend. He bought a pocket knife. As we were walking back to the car, he asked me “can I borrow your pocket knife?” My answer was “You just bought one.” He replied, “I need yours to get mine out of the package.” He was not happy.
That is some serious food for thought.
I’m only surprised that what your describing isn’t becoming the norm. Going back to “old school“ methods to control theft and vandalism.
I think the savings from eliminating theft, vandalism and spoilage would significantly offset the additional staff costs in many cases.
Looks like the end of brick-and-mortar grocery stores is near.

This also happens in New York City in some stores in some locations.
The media has made criminal copy cats more frequent. Not only do the normal folks see this stuff on their TVs and computer screens, so do many criminal wannabees who see how easily theives get away with stealing everything.
Perhaps inflation will increase prices such that 950 of theft will occur more often.
Perhaps they will index the threshold so this doesn’t happen.
