Ukrainian forces have faced dense minefields while carrying out counteroffensive operations.
It has forced Ukrainian units to move slowly on foot rather than using tanks or other vehicles.
Ukrainian officials are now calling for F-16 jets and more mine-clearance equipment.
Ukraine has been forced to change its counteroffensive strategy after repeatedly coming up against dense Russian minefields, a report says.
Ukrainian units are leaving behind the battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles donated by Western allies and advancing slowly on foot, The Washington Post reported.
"You can no longer do anything with just a tank with some armor because the minefield is too deep, and sooner or later, it will stop, and then it will be destroyed by concentrated fire," Ukraine's commander-in-chief General Valery Zaluzhny told The Post.
The minefields have exposed the limitations of Western-provided armor, which Ukraine had long been requesting to help in its fight to take back territory occupied by Russia.
Although the vehicles are sturdy, soldiers inside typically suffer only minor injuries; they have failed to overcome Russia's defenses alone, according to the report.
Nearly a third of the Bradley armored vehicles sent to Ukraine by the US have already been put out of action, according to open-source data.
Zaluzhny said that Ukraine now needs modern fighter jets like the US-made F-16 to improve its ground capabilities.

I don't know if these guys are crazy brave and valiant, or if they have not been told the hell that awaits them just a few steps down the road.
It's probably a little of both.
The entire thing is nuts. Everything about it, all sides are insane.
How could they be that stupid?
Who wants THIS MoS?
“Ukrainian forces are trying to save their few mine-clearing systems by manually clearing mines instead, often using small teams of soldiers that crawl on the ground and try to spot mines themselves, per The Post.”
What they should do is weld some booms in front of the tanks and attach some really heavy chains that would set off the mines a safe distance from the tank.
If a field is mined it might also be guarded by a machine gun nest.
It’s a political imperative, and they have their orders.
It is obvious the Ukies grand offensive has failed…..are they following orders from the US to bide some time till the US can get their negotiations moving?
Empty the prisons! Drive the convicts forward through the mine fields! It’s been done before by similar regimes.
I dont know. I’m not insane.
and you’re going to add cluster bombs soon??????
fake pic. Abrams is all gut, ass and flab....no boobs. that pic makes her look better than she does in person.

I’m betting the Ukrainian commanders “volunteer” their soldiers who are native Russian speaking Ukrainians
I wonder if American basic training still teaches the old bayonet mine search method we used to receive.
Maybe it’s a lie.
I know it’s a waste of lives either way.
Don’t some mines have magnetic detonators?
Nevertheless, it’s not for the faint of heart.
Thay are compression mines. Need weight to set them off..or a concussion. Other than that, they need root rakes on front of the armored vehicles to plow a lane through the mine fields but, then they’d get lit up by Russian thermobaric weapons while in the open.
What they need to do is quit call a cease fire and negotiate for a peace. They will accept the loss of some 20% of their country through the ignorance of listening to the Biden criminal enterprise.
My position on this war has been clear from the onset: I believe it is in the best interests of the American people that Russia prevail and that the US stays out of it.
But I can’t help but wonder...did these guys clearing mines by hand volunteer for this work? Or, are they conscripts compelled to do it?
If they are volunteers, I admire their bravery.
What we will see next is remote mining of anti personnel mines by the Russians. It’s already happened given that awful minefield video of the 47th Brigade.
NATO needs to learn from this, because they are going to be in exactly the same situation.
Their breach and assault strategy is destined to fail. And it doesn’t matter if they have “air cover” or not.
If you watch this video of US Army training, (including a cameo by Wesley Clark himself), they are using the same engineering vehicles as the Ukrainians, air cover is not a major factor, and if their engineering vehicles get hit, they are “fixed” in that minefield, and can’t even move.
