Sotomayor's wealth has skyrocketed since joining Supreme Court, raising ethics concerns

Obama-nominated SCOTUS justice has seen net worth spike during tenure on high court..

Sonia Sotomayor's net worth has increased significantly since joining the nation's highest court, according to financial disclosure forms amid new revelations about the Supreme Court justice's efforts to promote her books.

Sotomayor's net worth has skyrocketed, putting her among the ranks of the nation's millionaires. In 2021, her investments totaled somewhere between $1.5 million and $6.4 million,

....

One reason for the sharp increase in Sotomayor's investments and overall wealth is the money she's made from writing books. .. her staff has often "prodded" public institutions that have hosted the justice to buy her memoir or children's books — works that have made her at least $3.7 million since joining the Supreme Court and continue to rake in six-figure royalty payments annually.

According to the AP, Sotomayor's publisher, Penguin Random House, has played a role in organizing her talks, even pressing public institutions to commit to buying a certain number of copies or requesting attendees purchase books to obtain tickets.

Sotomayor didn't recuse herself from multiple cases before the Supreme Court involving Random House, despite earning significant money from her book deal with the publisher.

...

having her staff sell her books, including .. pressure on schools and libraries to buy a minimum number of her books

...

she made a mistake by failing to recuse from several cases involving her book publisher.

...

publishers responsible for book advances and contracts may have matters before the high court potentially requiring certain justices to recuse themselves.

Investments could pose a similar problem

...

The media ignores Justice Sotomayor receiving gifts while attacking Justices Thomas and Alito

...

If Senate Democrats actually cared about ethics, they'd start by cleaning up the crack den called the Biden White House."

“ No doubt the bribes are flowing in just like every other libtard”

Oh, the Republicans do it too. Pence got a multi million dollar book deal just a couple of months after leaving office. I think we know why.

Sotomayor must be using the same investment counselor as Liz Cheney.

She’s just into raking in as much money as she can-greedy, and not even trying to hide the lapses in ethics...

Ethnic card, maybe or female card-but not race-Hispanic is not a race-most of us are Caucasians-she is the same color/race and ethnic group as me-no race cards here...

If I were to pick a source for last years’ Infamous Leak, my money would be on Sotomayor.

Gingrich was raked through the coals for writing and making money off a book during his stint as Speaker. The argument then was that it was wrong to profit from your position in government while you were still on government. Like everything else, rules are invented for Republicans which are then magically forgotten for the Dems.

I pointed this out at a yahoo article on her. A reply from someone or thing just insulted me while ignoring the facts like all yahoo bots do.

This “news” is old, and SCOTUS issued a statement a week ago asserting that this is normal.

SCOTUS’ Code of Ethics encourages judges to “stay connected to community activities and to engage with the public, including by writing on both legal and nonlegal subjects.”

They, “routinely travel and speak to university, college and law school audiences and affiliated individuals and entities,” and staffers “assist the Justices in complying with judicial ethics guidance for such visits, including guidance relating to judges’ publications.”

And you always see the bastards, like Biden, saying how they’ve sacrificed in the Public Sector! Yeah, that’s why when they’re 90 - ala Feinstein and Pelosi - they won’t quit. They won’t quit and they hold on to those jobs in Dementia - because the Fortunes are too grand, the Cash is too free. Its just free money to these bastards. They ‘Police’ themselves and they corrupt newcomers faster than Christie on a box of eclairs.

Partner, you have said a mouthful and the truth!!!

The public keeps electing them!

Term limits for the House!

And for the Senate

Repeal the 17th Amendment!
State legislatures can’t do worse!

I think that it is the only solution that we have right now that may be possible.

A lot of states are still using the so called free election in their own state but it is people who are dead and people that do not live in that state that are voting.

How can you even get close to even winning???

Partner, we have to do something that you suggest or these politicians will die in office.

I would say 10 (2) year maximum term for folks in the house and say 3 or 4 (6) year terms as a senator.

We should have a test for competency of our POTUS.

This guy Biden is a legitimate case for competency.

Competency test for the Presidency?
How would you require it? How often would they have to take it? A ‘stupid statement’ threshold? Politicians usually say a normal person’s lifetime amount after their first month in office! How would you implement the test? Who would implement it? Who would judge the results?

Biden’s unfitness for office was evident long before he was president, long before he was VP and senator, but the voters of Delaware kept sending him back!
