"A Dozen NYPD Officers Arrest a Guy Smoking a Cigarette Outside as Rapists and Murderers Roam Free"

So with murder, rape, assaults, burglary, and shoplifting running a mok in NY, they send twelve police officers to arrest a guy smoking a cigarette outside. In a city in which a guy feels free to ride his motorcycle down the street just shooting random people, the police apparently have their priorities in line.

I think sometimes they GO after the easy crimes..in lieu of a serious crime.
Back before they removed 99% of the clunkers from the road ..i swear they targeted the junky cars..cause they knew they couldn’t afford lawyers to get out of a ticket.

Look at celebs ..or sons of presidents..who drive way above the speed limit ..while on drugs.. nothing happens.
You on the other hand would in up in jail and pay a sizable fine.

> While totally legal it is a good way to give the cops an “attitude” in a hurry. <

And therein lies one of my gentle objections. I expect police officers to behave in a professional manner at all times. At all times! Be polite whenever possible. Keep your ego in check. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, given their training and their pay.

It’s nothing more than I’d ask from any professional. Airline pilots, school teachers, plumbers. Act in a professional manner. Keep your ego in check.

If you spend some time listening to the scanner you will learn that not all of your allegation against cops are accurate. And sometimes they plant themselves very publically into places to help prevent certain crimes from being committed.

‘Routine’ traffic stops are frequently not routine. Especially when the police lights go on to indicate the stop, and the subject takes off at high speed only to hit a light pole or kill someone crossing the street, or run into and kill a vehicle/driver legally in said intersection etc.

Domestic violence...frequently trouble, making arrests frequently dangerous, stopping vehicles driving the wŕong way up the interstate, or any other bust roadway.

Even planting stop stix is very dangerous. I saw the stix being planted, targeted vehicle driving on them, a stolen uhaul, whic ended up slamming sideways into a volks wagon and squashing it against the rails oner the interstate.

There’s a lot of crazy schtuff that goes on out there.

Making an arrest even after the crime is frequently unsafe.

I hear your heart rellic, you are simply mistaken about police safety. I’ve had friends and family who are police and I’ve seen my share of corrupt police. I’ve experienced times when they have literally saved my life like when an expouse broke into my house and tried to strangle me. Thank God the neighbors called the cops. Times when I trusted other cops, and shouldn’t have. It didn’t hurt me, but did hurt others.

There are times and ways to speak up to police and get good results, and times when nothing you can say or do will improve your situation. But neither should you deliverately aggrivate your situation. They may be the beginning of the legal line, but they are not the end of it.

Some really are nothing more than egotistical ass4oles. If you bow and scrape in the moment, they will brush the dust off their shoulder, because they are too stupid to see they weren’t polishing their badge.

Not surprising. The police are not your friend or there to “protect and serve”. They are bullies with a gun and badge and low IQs.

“At least they made it home safe. Back the blue”

Yeah, but they didn’t get to shoot any dogs.
They’ll have to shoot two next time.

They get to claim an arrest of a white guy, so they can pad the numbers.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Further, a well dressed guy probably has 1) money, 2) good reason to pay a ticket or show up in court and pay a fine, or 3) hire a lawyer (money goes right back into the system).

Whereas street trash has none of the above.

Maybe its the same dozen cops it took to arrest a man for filming the 911 memorial?

Wife and I were in NYC two weeks ago and the whole town…the entire time we were there, smelled like marijuana.

“Episodes of the TV show “Cops” show us that many cops are heroes. They do difficult and dangerous work.

Personal video devices show us that many cops are arrogant, egotistical trash. They escalate whenever possible.

Now here’s something the police evidently just don’t get. Things are not balancing out.
More and more Americans are losing respect for the police.”

How much is caused by the cities policy and how much by the police officers?

I believe this man was stopped for smoking weed in a park, which is a simple ticket. But in order to get the ticket, you have to present ID, which he refused to do. So you have to be cuffed and taken to the Precinct where your ID can be verified, you can get a ticket, and be on your way. People on this thread have no idea what is happening in this video, and it shows.

Brought it upon himself. Much smarter to comply and make a complaint later. This is not a great way to make a point.

That’s a fair question. I’m no expert. But I must reluctantly put the majority of the blame on the police. Here’s an example. It’s just one of hundreds. A girl is studying in the park. She’s not bothering anyone! To the contrary. Bless her for behaving, and trying to improve herself.

The cops just couldn’t leave her alone. They had to come up, and hassle the heck out of her. She won’t forget this. And neither will anyone she tells the story to.

I think that may be just a slight generalization. You seem to have not been taught what objectivity is.

The police do what they’re told to do....

There lies the problem. Especially federal police.

It is not about “to protect and serve”. It is about shut up, follow orders, and keep your pension.

Good example was Waco.

Of course there are bad apples who are police officers - as well as bad apple doctors, pilots, lawyers, therapists and garbage men. Trying to generalize from some examples doesn’t work unless you can evaluate the millions of contacts the police have every day.

Oh, and here’s another one. A legally blind old vet is walking on a public sidewalk. He’s got a foldable white cane in his back pocket. He’s not doing a damn thing wrong. Leave him alone, right?

No. Not at all. Cops cuff him, then cart him off to jail.
This is not a city policy malfunction. It is out-of-control policing.

That is a fair statement. But here’s the thing. Society can tolerate bad lawyers, bad therapists, and bad garbage men. Those folks can’t do all that much damage.

But we CANNOT tolerate bad doctors, bad pilots, or bad police officers. Those folks ruin lives. To some extent, bad doctors and bad pilots are weeded out. But bad cops usually aren’t weeded out. Even the fired ones just move from one department to another.

And I say all that with some regret. I understand how difficult policing must be. But by golly, I also understand how much damage an unchecked bad cop can do.
