Ithaca, New York - Starbucks broke US law when it closed a unionized store in Ithaca, a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) judge ruled on Thursday.
Administrative law judge Arthur Amchan ruled that Starbucks closed its College Avenue café, located near the Cornell University campus, "in large part to discourage unionization efforts in Ithaca and elsewhere."
The coffee chain announced it was shutting down the College Avenue store just two months after all three of its locations in Ithaca voted to unionize. This year, the company said it would close the other two stores as well.
Amchan called for Starbucks to reopen the store immediately, reinstate fired workers with back pay, and post a notice about workers' rights at its cafés around the US.
They have great tea .

So if the “shop” loses money the owner has to subsidize it from profititable shops?
No problem. The hours of operation are now 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. Saturday through Friday. Enjoy!
I spent five young years in Ithaca, Fourth Grade through Eighth Grade. It is indeed a beautiful area and back in the 1960-1964 era it wasn’t a radical loony bin.
We went to St. Luke Lutheran Church on the Cornell Campus just around the corner from the Starbucks on College Ave. It was a very traditional congregation and clergy at the time - I shudder to think what it has become.
Google Maps shows that Starbucks location as “Permanently Closed” (for the time being).
Thanks. Tim Hortons much cheaper.
Tim Horton much cheaper. I think people just like walking around with those Starbucks cups.
My bestie went to college in Ithaca so I visited in the early 70s. I was uncomfortable even then. The radicalization had begun. After freshman year, she totally changed and we never had contact again.
There are no limits to tyranny...
There is no end in sight!
What a shame you two fell apart. How sad. Sorry to hear that.
One of my wife’s dear friends went whacko when Trump got elected and started marching in “Resist” parades. She went completely nuts and was always recruiting my wife to the dark side. May wife told her to stop it, but she wouldn’t, and several months later that was the end of that friendship.
That was in the SF Bay Area where that type of person is very common.
Bingo! And it only took 4 posts.

Plus a “regional surcharge” of $4 per cup for increased cost of production.

The irony of all this is delicious. Starbucks espoused Democrat socialist wokeism for years, but ran the business like capitalists. They attracted Democrat socialist workers, who felt ill treated under capitalist business realities, so wanted to unionize so they could get paid more than than economic reality would dictate. Starbucks capitalist managers, realizing they could not afford the increased costs, shut down a poorly peforming store. The woke, would be Democrat socialist employees appeal to their government overlords for relief ... and win their case! You MUST reopen your store, rehire the workers, and give them back pay!
Socialism is just great when it eats their own.
Wete no longer a republic. The law is whatever Deep State thinks it can get away with.
We’re no longer a republic.
And denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.
Moral: Don’t ever open a retail business in any city that votes for Democrats.
No, the judge is a panicky Biden Democrat who sees a union defeat
However, he issued a ruling he can’t enforce
If they aren’t workers, the vote is moot.
When the store is closed, they are not workers

It takes a union to be able hire someone to make a way over priced cup of coffee in the first place?
Ithica and Cornell are noted for their Marxist proclivities. For sanity’s sake, one does not hire a Cornell graduate to do anything other than swamp toilets.
