Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen made two diplomatic mistakes Saturday when greeting her counterpart from China, according to The New York Post.
First, Yellen bowed multiple times to China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng, who did not reciprocate the gesture, according to footage of the event. Yellen then proceeded to bungle Lifeng’s name just moments later, calling her diplomatic counterpart “Vice Premier Hu,” according to The New York Post.
Yellen bowed at least three times while Lifeng backed away slightly to provide President Joe Biden’s top economy official more space to bow, according to the Post. Yellen is the latest Biden administration official to visit China in an effort to soothe escalating tensions between the two world powers.
“Never, ever, ever,” Bradley Blakeman, a former senior staff member in George W. Bush’s administration, said to the Post of Yellen’s gestures. “An American official does not bow. “Bowing is not part of the accepted protocol,” Jerome Cohen, an emeritus professor at New York University and expert in Chinese law and government, said

Which I didn't apologize for because I mumbled the words to myself . . . no one else knows.
I'd be renowned in diplomatic circles.
She’s not supposed to bow.
I bet she knew that.
She was sending a message: we acknowledge your status as our overlords.

I have no doubt it took him a second to assess if it was a female or a male.
Yellen watched the “manners when in Japan” by mistake.
And in any case, they all look alike in China, she didn’t know Hu he was.
When did the Chinese start dressing better than us? I remember when Nixon visited China, they all wore the same stupid Mao jackets and looked shorter, dorkier and inferior compared to the tall, handsome American dignitaries.
My wife is Chinese-American. The only bowing we do is for funerals and cemeteries to honor the dead. Bow three times. For dead people.

She is a perfect fit for the inept Biden Administration.
