Meta-owned Facebook has handed US users the controls over fact-checked content, in a potentially significant move that the platform says will give them more power over its algorithm but some analysts insist could benefit purveyors of misinformation.
For years, Facebook's algorithm automatically moved posts lower in the feed if they were flagged by one of the platform's third-party fact-checking partners, including AFP, reducing the visibility of false or misleading content.
Under a new "content reduced by fact-checking" option that now appears in Facebook's settings, users have flexibility to make debunked posts appear higher or lower in the feed or maintain the status quo.
Fact-checked posts can be made less visible with an option called "reduce more." That, according to the platform's settings, means the posts "may be moved even lower in feed so you may not see them at all."
Another option labeled "don't reduce" triggers the opposite effect, moving more of this content higher in their feed, making it more likely to be seen.
"We're giving people on Facebook even more power to control the algorithm that ranks posts in their feed," a Meta spokesman told AFP.

Over time, everyone will believe the same thing, which will have nothing to do with truth.
When they stop regularly meeting in and with the White House, I will believe this. But now it’s as fake as the USSC rulings on discrimination that give institutions such a large loophole, as to make it mnothing more than fake news to boost the person who endorsed them.

On it's face, the above statement feels right to me. I think many of us see the backlash that's occurring clearly and it needs to become much more visible and impactful. Budweiser, Target and others are just the start.
With that said, I don't trust Fakebook at all. There has to be something else going on here. Any tool that can be used for good can also be used for evil. So how are the leftists that dominate Fakebook going to use it to squelch dissenting opinion even more than they already do on that "platform?"
Fakebook's history of "giving users more control" has almost without exception, been used as a marketing tool, following users across the internet and targeting ads to them through pretty much every other online vendor that there is.
Again, given their history I suspect this is what they're really doing and also: those indicating their preferences will no doubt be self-identifying some flag for the corrupt DOJ, FBI, etc.. setting themselves up for political persecution and wondering "where the hell did that come from?"
Don't trust Fakebook or that gay-ass Mark Suckerberg.
Anyone using that setting will have their info passed along to the FBI.
On Facebook, I could post “I just farted!” and get 67 likes in an hour. I post ANYTHING mocking a Dem and I get 5 likes from my 90% conservative friends/acquaintances. The rigged algorithm is very effective.
The new Orwellian meaning of the term “misinformation” means information that the manipulators wants us to “miss”.
