A national defense analyst says NATO and the West need to pay attention to Russia’s repeated warnings about using nuclear weapons, this time from a notable academic who concludes Russia must consider nukes to stop NATO expansion and to “save humanity” from the West.
“Russia and its leadership seem to be facing a difficult choice,” begins the academic paper by Sergei Karaganov. “It becomes increasingly clear that a clash with the West cannot end even if we win a partial or even a crushing victory in Ukraine.”
That frightening document, which published in late June, goes on for another 2,900 words to conclude using “God’s weapon of Armageddon” will prevent – not create – a worsening crisis in Europe. "The enemy must know," he writes, "that we are ready to deliver a preemptive strike in retaliation for all of its current and past acts of aggression in order to prevent a slide into global thermonuclear war."
The word "nuclear" is used 27 times and "nuclear weapon" is used 10 times by Karaganov, a historian and political scientist.

I had to laugh as well. I thought at the same time a Russian general pounds the table and says, “Dang we missed.”
I am baffled as to why Russia has not already used tactical nukes in the Ukraine.
They could do so with military impunity and would lose far fewer men.
It’s not like anyone from NATO would lift a finger.
I think the Deep State will be more concerned with their own skins, than the country. The would just move to New Zealand, Brussels, or wherever their bugout shelters are located.
This person is crazy the west would only want to end Russia because of their out right aggression. Do we really believe that if they can’t beat Ukraine thy would take on the whole rest of the Nato alliance? If they started attacking with Nuclear weapons what would we do? WE would blast the main cities in the Russia central area and the rest of Russia would leave and that would be the end of them. That is what would happen.

Well that's true for your view, too. Yours is no more true than those who say not.
I don't think Putin is dumb. He's not so stupid to believe that, but he does want to reestablish the Soviet Union or at least the big parts of it. That starts with Ukraine--the biggest piece not under his or NATO's control, nor too close to China.
He's not a fanatic like Rasputin, nor a master strategist like Otto Von Bismark, but he does play the game, in his own ruthless way.
He doesn't think Russia is cornered as much as he thinks there is an opportunity that would slip away (Ukraine joins NATO--which was becoming closer and closer to real by late 2021--and China taking leadership over the Central Asian Republics--which is still ongoing) if he did not make his move.

This guy is very close to Putin and Lavrov. He is head of Russia’s Council on Foreign and Defense Policy. He is making these comments o/b/o Putin, clearly bullying threats — which is so very typical of Russia — in an attempt to cow the West into halting its support of Ukraine. He knows — and Putin knows — that Russia’s use of nukes against the West will result in the disappearance of Russia.
