The nation wants to feed hungry students: Congress, make it happen
The Hill ^ | 07/05/2023 | LYNDON HAVILAND,

When an overwhelming number of Americans support a specific public health policy, as rare as that is these days, you’d think our elected leaders in Washington would rush to pass legislation that reflects the will of their respective voters.

And when that policy involves the pressing issue of solving child hunger, you’d think Congress would move expeditiously to prevent further suffering endured by a defenseless segment of the U.S. population.

We have the fattest poor people in the U.S.
We have the richest poor people in the world.

Gee Mr. Wizard, what is the correlation?

OMG Lyndon what about EBT, SNAP, school breakfast, lunch, and dinner???

And, if that weren’t enough, many schools provide ‘backpacks’ of food to help the kids get through weekends. Of course only someone with a heart of stone would suggest deducting the schools’ lunch and breakfasts from the families’ SNAP allocation. And many schools provide ‘free’ lunches to anyone who looks under the age of 18 during the summer.

It goes without saying that it is racist or at least cold-hearted to suggest that parents be expected to feed their own children.

The child doesn’t know where his next meal is coming from, but his mother has braids that cost hundreds and nails that cost another one hundred.

Don't forget the tattoos. Makes me sick when I see these people standing in line for freebies that I pay for.

Yep, in countries where this is a real problem, there are significant numbers of children starving every year, but we don’t have that issue.

The only children that starve in the USA are the ones who are intentionally abused by their parents and caregivers.

Bulls***-with all the free food given away at schools from the time kids arrive to when they go home, the problem is fat kids-not hungry ones in cities-you can see them waddling on/off the busses in the AM if you work in the city. You don’t see fat kids-not many fat adults, either-out here, but kids in these rural places are increasingly homeschooled or in small Christian schools and have parents who care for and feed them-and most people here are working class-not well off-as in normal people/parents-they don’t ask for free stuff from other taxpayers...

The rest of us are not responsible for other peoples’ kids-they need to do the parenting themselves-or if that mom would rather have fancy nails, clothes, hair cars than spend money to take care of their kid, give the kid for adoption to someone who will actually be a parent, loving and providing like normal people do...

On the surface, the School Lunch Program was a good idea. However, then the bureaucrats came in to threaten schools, that if they didn’t implement *hundreds* of unrelated federal rules, their Lunch Program money would be cut off.

It became so onerous and expensive to school district, that some years ago, schools did the math and figured out they could deliver better food and more of it, *without* federal funding, and could say “to hell with those hundreds of other demands”. Which would actually *save* them money.

Needless to say, the MSM only gave this minimal coverage, and more leftist school administrations and districts didn’t even consider it.

Too many fat kids in school now as it is. End the free lunches
Take out all the soda machines and replace them with the old cigarette vending machines
That will keep them nice and thin

I was a single mom for a couple years-supported my cub with my paycheck and did college classes part time-my mom helped with babysitting and some fresh food-easy when living in the country-but I never got one bite of government cheese, one dime of welfare, etc-I never even applied for it...

So the narrative is that the GOP is starving your children.
So what….the dems are raping them and turning them into slaves.

"The nation wants to feed hungry students."

Really.? Why would we want to do that..? The kids we're raising in the cities today are like crazed animals. Someday soon, I expect them to start killing and eating us..!

The responsibility of “solving” child hunger belongs to their parents - not the public at large.

One word - parents. They should be held accountable for taking care of a child's needs, including food. There are lots of social services programs to help poor parents. Why aren't they held accountable? Why aren't the parents of hungry kids held accountable? Parent(s)!

Kids in schools throw out so much of the free breakfasts and lunches, what’s the point.

The actual solution to solving “child hunger” is for the PARENTS to take their own responsibility to feed and clothe their kids themselves.
