Twitter chaos leaves door open for Meta's rival app

Elon Musk spent the weekend further alienating Twitter users with more drastic changes to the social media giant, and he is facing a new challenge as tech nemesis Mark Zuckerberg prepares to launch a rival app this week.

Zuckerberg's Meta group, which owns Facebook, has listed a new app in stores as "Threads, an Instagram app", available for pre-order in the United States, with a message saying it is "expected" this Thursday.

The two men have clashed for years but a recent comment by a Meta executive suggesting that Twitter was not run "sanely" irked Musk, eventually leading to the two men offering each other out for a cage fight.

Since buying Twitter last year for $44 billion, Musk has fired thousands of employees and charged users $8 a month to have a blue checkmark and a "verified" account.

On the weekend, he limited the posts readers could view and decreed that nobody could look at a tweet unless they were logged in, meaning external links no longer work for many.

If the net result of all of this is Google fills the void in social media, then Musk failed miserably.

Day one, you discover that there are forty-odd things that you can’t discuss on this new platform, and that a quarter of the employees are former Twitter-people.

That's what the kids are demanding. They felt "safe" on the old Twitter.

It’s Zuckerberg not Google. And it’ll still suck and lose to twitter and TikTok. Zuckerberg makes crappy products.

I have been back on Twitter since Musk took over.

Twitter has never been better.

Of course, most libs hate it because free speech is allowed, that triggers them.

No longer are conservatives and MAGA people shadow-banned or banned outright.

You can challenge things like COVID vaccines, global warming, and more than two genders without getting thrown off the platform.

The Left HATES that.

I say, let them go to this Zuckerburg alternative.

Nothing spies on you like Facebook. It is extreme. CIA/FIB Threads, nice, rush right out and get that.

[What chaos?]

Possibly related to migrating off Google servers. $1b contract ended in June. No real announcement as to whether they’re doing a day-to-day continuation fee as of now. But odds are there’s a migration going on. $1b is a good chunk of change for something Twitter could probably do way cheaper. If Musk can get it done for half the cost, the way he went from 7,000 employees to 1,000, he could make Twitter profitable even with ads down 50%.

Zuckerberg makes crappy products.

Zuckerberg is a tool of the Democratic Party so that's why he is going nowhere with this new product.

Fortunately, the young folks are not using his social media apps and they are all on SnapChat and TikTok now so they are not subject to Zuckerberg's censorship.

Musk provides many good things for society in general.

Zuck is nothing but a leech who sucks data from unwitting people then sells it to professional exploiters.

Given that Zuck spent $400 million in2020 to elect Demoncrats I wouldn’t necessarily call him a tool of the Satanic party, more like an enabler of evil.

The greatest service Musk performed was opening Twitter up and stopping political censorship. As long as the government had total obedience of all the social media companies it could ban all discussion of certain topics (see Hunter Biden and many many others). Textbook fascism, so-called free industry being total tools of the state.

When Musk allowed free speech on such topics it made it obvious that the others were suppressing information on purpose and Lo! all of a sudden certain topics were allowed to be spoken of in public again on multiple platforms.

We need at least one prominent mainstream social media platform that doesn't censor on behalf of the government or a political party that controls the government.

Twitter is fine. Tweetdeck is amazing for people who use twitter for business. Twitter ain’t going anywhere. Musk overpaid for it, but he’ll be ok.
