The former sheriff's deputy who fled to safety during the Parkland school massacre broke down in court today when a jury found him not guilty.
Former Broward County Deputy Scot Peterson wept as the verdicts were read. The jury had deliberated for 19 hours over four days.
The campus deputy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Peterson had been charged with failing to confront shooter Nikolas Cruz during his six-minute attack inside a three-story 1200 classroom building on February 14, 2018, that left 17 dead.
He could have received nearly 100 years in prison, although a sentence even approaching that length would have been highly unlikely given the circumstances and his clean record. He also could have lost his $104,000 annual pension.

Apparently for years this guy was taking pay for a service that he was not willing to give. Sue him for breech of contract
His actions were not criminal, per the law. This was a CRIMINAL case, not a CIVIL case (which, I believe, is in the works).
Several witnesses testified they had no idea where the shots were coming from, though many of those said they THOUGHT the shots were coming from OUTSIDE the building, not inside.
Which is what the defendant had said.
It’s a sad case. But the jury came to the right decision for a CRIMINAL case.

FBI was warned about this punk before the shooting....did they charge them?....what a stupid prosecution....just looking for a scape goat.
Not guilty of what? Certainly not cowardice.

Cowardice is not a crime. But it is unforgivable in a LEO, a fireman or a soldier. Don’t put on a uniform if you don’t have a backbone.
