NANTERRE, France (AP) — A French police officer who shot and killed a 17-year-old driver will be investigated for voluntary homicide, following two days of fires and violent protests that injured scores of officers, officials said Thursday.
Some 40,000 police officers will be deployed overnight to quell violence that engulfed cities and towns in the wake of the shooting.
The killing of 17-year-old Nahel during a traffic check Tuesday, captured on video, shocked the country and stirred up long-simmering tensions between young people and police in housing projects and other disadvantaged neighborhoods around France.
Protesters set cars and public buildings ablaze in Paris suburbs and unrest spread to some other French cities and towns.
“The professionals of disorder must go home,” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said. “There will be a lot more police and gendarmes present tonight.”
Darmanin said 170 officers had been injured in the unrest but none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Depends on what you’re really trying to accomplish. The problem is well meaning people accepted the stated goals way back when.
In my lifetime the narrative went from “We all need to get along” and similar feel good, anodyne statements like that. Who could argue with that? In recent years though the tone shifted a bit, to some variation of “Whitey needs to die!”, and segregation is championed without a hint of irony, much less recognition it is illegal seven ways to Sunday.
Riots are a great way to cause all sorts of problems and upend the existing social order. “The worse, the better”.
That's why France borders Brazil, Suriname, the Netherlands and Canada
Diversity works in some levels - the diversity of Christian America - whether Italians or Germans or English - more or less worked.
With Jews too it works.
Or take the UK - the diversity of English, Welsh, Scots, Irish, then emigree Eastern Europeans and Jews - worked more or less.
The Hindus and Sikhs who migrated also merged quite well.
Who didn’t get along with others? Muslims - whether white or brown or black or whatever
The gift that keeps on giving.
Used to be when people came to America they were expected to become American They still had their areas in cities and towns to celebrate their ethnicity, but they were Americans first.
Now they come here and expect Americans to become them with no regard for American citizens. We need to go back and re-establish what really qualifies as a refugee, a migrant, and what is an illegal border invader.
Probably too late for that now.
France messed up by not leaving the Africans in Africa.
Agreed, that ship has sailed and I wish I was on it.
Sometimes I try to cogitate when the last opportunity passed, when it was actually possible to right this ship of fools, and it is difficult. With herculean effort maybe it was possible as lates as sometime in the early 1990s. Maybe.
Lots of critical key court rulings paved the way for guaranteed failure. For just one example - Requiring citizens to pay for illegal aliens - under the notion that a free and compulsory education in school is mandatory, was silliness on bad acid.
Or terrorists and unlawful enemy combatants are afforded a jury trial and the rest of it. And so it goes. Every outrage over the years is just another straw on the camel’s back.
well, if you exclude Islam, then quite often diversity is very, very good.
Take the English - prior to the 1790s they were already a mix of Celtic Britons + Romans + Celtic Irish, Scots, Welsh and Cornish mixed with Angles, Saxons, Jutes and then Danes and toss in the Normans and then French Huguenots, then Jews
From 1790 they merged in various Germanic peoples, then Eastern Europeans, Italians etc.
Or the USA — a very successful mixed nation.
Or the French - Germanic, Celtics, Romans etc.
It’s Islam that is the fly in the ointment
The French government is totally responsible for this mess. Other European nations are in line for the same thing.

We all remember that months-long rioting, the arson, the killings of innocents, the killing of police, the burning down of police stations, the insurrection against the USA Government, the “declaration of independence” of and area in the middle of Seattle taken over by criminals, the dreadful “defunding the police” hysteria pushed by subversive organisations... etc...
Those who are rioting right now in France are anti-france islamic youth originating from countries from the middle East.
“Kill whitey” was a common sentiment in the urban northeast and upper Midwest in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly in our own destructive riots that took place from 1964-1968.
