While visiting the US-Mexico border, Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis released his border security plan which calls for an end of birthright citizenship and for him to be able to send the US military into Mexico if necessary.
“Joe Biden has failed to meet the most basic responsibility of ensuring the territorial integrity of our country,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said as his plan was unveiled in Texas.
“Biden’s gross dereliction of duty has left the southern border in shambles.”
The plan, which mirrors many immigration talking points laid out by other Republicans, including GOP rival Donald Trump, also promised to finish the border wall — which no US president has been able to do.
In a plan of action called “No excuses: stop the invasion,” DeSantis laid out what he hopes to accomplish if he were to become president, including ending the legal right of all children born on US soil to become citizens under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
In a DeSantis presidency, children of illegal immigrants would not automatically qualify as Americans.
“Dangling the prize of citizenship to the future offspring of illegal immigrants is a major driver of illegal migration,” the plan reads. *** “It is also inconsistent with the original understanding of 14th Amendment, and DeSantis will force the courts and Congress to finally address this failed policy.” *** “If the Mexican government drags its feet, DeSantis reserves the right to operate across the border to secure our territory from Mexican cartel activities,” the document says. ***

Anytime you use the police for a military function or the military for a police function it ends badly.
Every time.
********
True. It’s a bad idea.
The idea was stupid when Trump talked about doing it and is still just as stupid with DeSantis talking about it.
I want our military busting up the military of another nation, a nation that we have a Congressionally declared war against. The military branches should have better things to do than playing prohibition agent.
The birthright citizenship rights law is laughably late in being abolished.
Even semi-socialist Canada abolished it 2 decades ago it seems like. They literally had 747s full of prego Chinese communists landing all within days of giving birth then not only being given almost immediate citizenship for the entire family but having the hospital bills go directly to tax revenue for payment.
It’s an archaic law made when the country had a dearth of population and free land for the asking.
Trump talked, issued EOs, did not negotiate and work deals. Maybe it was the bad people he surrounded himself with, sometimes I don’t think he really wanted some things to work beyond talk. Overall, he built around 50 miles of new wall, repairs about 400-500 miles and left the rest incomplete. He did not round up and deport illegals, he did not stop commerce with countries that r efused to take back their citizens. He said the wall would be paid for by Mexico, which I am sure is still laughing at this embarrassment. And now Trump wants a third attempt to do things? Nothing suggests he’s learned anything or is better prepared or is willing to work for success. He’ll just fail.
This is why the Wall was only partially built.

And now, Paul Ryno is supporting DeSwampis and we are supposed to believe that he is serious about the Southern border.
There is a certain type of dumb BoomerCon who gets endlessly fooled by public statements, while ignoring who is supporting their guys, and what those elites hear behind closed doors.
SCOTUS will have input whether he likes it or not
Trump was president, not Paul Ryan. Trump failed. Whether because he wasn’t the supreme negotiator he claimed, whether he picked and trusted the wrong people, or whatever. Bottom line, Trump was president and he failed to deliver.

There are no limits to GOP campaign promises...
Historically, there has been no limit to GOP forgetfulness once elected...
The last GOPer to live up to some of the campaign promises was the Pillsbury Doughboy in 1998...
I haven't heard any serious plan from anyone, including Trump, about identifying the illegals here and deporting them. This talk about ending sanctuary cities and building a wall is fine but does nothing about the 20 million already here.
I've asked myself, if we had a government serious about removing illegals, precisely how would they go about finding/identifying them?
optics 🤣
I don't think they thought this one through@ErinMPerrine🤣

Like every DeSantis event....50 people/donors and 30 media.

yayayayaay....and even if DeSantis SOMEHOW becomes POTUS...he will have a Democrat House....or a Democrat Senate...or a budget issue ...all of which will mysteriously somehow keep the border status quo.
All of us can smell a another UniParty Rino from across the country now.

Once you open your eyes and see it, you can’t unsee it. Great post.

At least Trump has a chance, your boy DeSantis has no chance. He can’t win the nomination, hence no chance in the general election.
The same UniParty REpubs (now supporting DeSantis) were the ones that said the Wall was “too expensive”.
But in the past year the same people have sent hundreds of billions to Ukraine, and want even more.

Trump says he will. DeSantis, no.
Who cares what his plan is? The establishment Republicans that own him won’t let him follow through on anything that would close the border. And, there is reason to believe he’d fight to get anything done like Trump did.
“What Trump did was to try EOs instead of negotiating with Congress. He failed.”
How can you be so stupid? That is a rude, but my nerves are getting irritated with all this crap.
Paul Ryan. Have you ever heard of Paul Freaking Ryan? He said he would never cooperate with Trump.
Have you listened to his last two speeches? That is where he described in detail his plans.
This is the speech I listened to: President Trump Delivers Keynote Address at Faith and Freedom Coalition – 7:00pm Livestream. Skipping ahead to ~1h 4min accesses the beginning of his border and deportation segment.
Sounds like he’ll make a great VP for Trump, with those policies. Perhaps reality is starting to set-in for him.
The VP is a largely ceremonial role, though. If DeSantis loses the primary, it might be better to keep him in Florida, where he can continue to fight wokeness then run in 2028. Of course that's assuming that Trump wins in 2024 and people outside of Florida still remember the actions and policies of a former governor 2 years after his term is up. Both big ifs.
Don't elect an elitist who has never held an honest job to the White House.
Serving in the Navy isn't an honest job?
Woodrow Wilson never served in the Navy.
