Howdy everyone! JimRob reporting in from the VA hospital!
This place is starting to feel like my second home. We called last week to make a doctors appointment, but it turns out my doctor is on vacation. So we made an appointment to see one of his nurses, and she sent me to a lab to get a urine sample for a suspected UTI. And sure enough, I do have a UTI. And they also took my blood pressure. It was 169/90 something, which was way too high. Then they sent me to a nurse practitioner who prescribed an antibiotic for the UTI. I also asked her about my back, but said she just wanted to deal with the UTI. The doctor would need to look at my back after he returns from vacation.
On Saturday, I thought I had a stroke. My left side upper lip and face went numb, I partially lost my voice. So I asked Chris to take me to the ER at the VA hospital. When we got to the ER, they did a brain scan. The doctor said there was an abnormality there, but he compared to a prior scan, and the abnormality was there too, so he wasn’t worried about it. The good thing is, I didn’t have a stroke. By the time I got home from the hospital, my lip was no longer numb and my voice was completely back.
Then on Sunday morning, I woke up, and had a lot of pain on the skin on my back. A burning itching pain, and was generally miserable. We talked about it, and decided that it would be better for me to go to a care facility, because Chris doesn’t have the medical knowledge to care for me at home. So we went back to the ER, and they agreed it would better for me at a care facility. If I do go to a long-term care facility, Chris will set up my computer so I can still work, and a hands-free phone. I’m determined to keep on working until the day I die. They admitted me for “a few days”, and started treatments. They found out I was dehydrated, so put me on an IV, which is also to deliver the antibiotic and Magnesium.
I was nauseous all day yesterday, so I was unable to eat, but today they’re making up for it. They brought me breakfast, and before I could get that digested, they brought me lunch, and before I could get that digested, they brought me dinner. I’m beginning to feel like a stuffed turkey! All I do here is eat and sleep — or try to sleep — and get poked. Seems like every couple hours, they wake me to take my vitals or draw blood or take a pill or be turned etc etc etc. I’ve had about 5 or 6 doctors visit me, seems like dozens of nurses, and the chaplain. My old wound care nurse from last year came in and examined my pressure sores, and the problems with the skin on my back. So anyway, I’m getting plenty of nursing and doctoring attention. I hope to be up and working again very soon.
Thank you all very much for your support and prayers. It’s greatly appreciated. God bless you all.
