Casper’s Banner Health has revoked at least one parent’s access to her child’s medical records online now that the child is 12 years old, according to a tip sent this week to Cowboy State Daily.
“Access to your child’s account has been revoked,” reads a screen shot of Banner Health’s message to the parent. “The reason for this is because the child is now between the ages of 12 and 17. Based on state law, a minor child may consent to certain treatments without parental consent.”
Records of those treatments are protected, Banner Health’s note continues, “and may not be released to a parent without the minor patient’s consent.”
Because the hospital can’t separate those protected records out, it denied the parent proxy access to her child’s patient account.
The parent still can request the child’s medical records by going to a Banner Health hospital or clinic and completing a request for certain records, the note says.
It adds: “We can limit access to records of treatment that may not be provided without the minor’s consent.”

The government is taking control of your children. Plan accordingly.
My immediate thought. Parent should refuse to pay any charges levied for treatments not approved. Then shout it to the high hills. Name and shame.
This is happening in Wyoming of all states? Wow. Just wow.
I believe this is a result of federal regulations not state law.
Who pays for those “treatments?” The parent. So the parent has the right to know, and to make executive decisions on behalf of the child.
One more step on the path to government taking total control of kids.
“We can limit access to records of treatment that may not be provided without the minor’s consent.”
Will this be the next term thrown around for discussion? -— “a minor’s right to consent for medical procedures, etc.”
Any other framing of the issue is dishonest.
I’d be standing on some MF’s desk and have their attention in a US Marine Officer’s Minute!
Banner Health should be losing lots of policies.
Surprised to know 12 year olds can sign legal binding agreements about anything. Boycott Casper Health.
What other legal binding agreements will they be allowed to sign?????
Try paying for your kid’s college and wanting to look at their grades.
America is finished.
“Boycott Casper Health”
I think most clinics are doing that right now unless the parent already had access.
When the bill comes don’t pay it. Give it to the kid. Pull the kid from coverage.
They are doing so based on HIPPA rules, not based on Wyoming laws.

The UNLV guidance counselling office started my 13/14 year old daughters session before I got to the office to meet her there. They didn’t want to let me in and threatened to call the police. I told them to please do because they had kidnapped my child and I’d be happy to file a report. I reiterated that a few times and surprise! They let me in the counseling session. Don’t let your children be taken hostage, or their records.
TN voted straight blue in state amendments last go round.
Then they can pay the medical bills until the child is 18...
