On this day on June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan’s call to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down the Berlin Wall" became widely considered a defining moment of the Reagan presidency, according to Stanford University.
The line, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall," also came to be a profound statement of the 1980s.
President Reagan’s "tear down this wall" speech was made following the G7 summit meeting in Venice.
And as the Reagan spoke, his words were amplified on both sides of the Berlin Wall, reaching both East and West Germans, according to the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
President Reagan gave the speech at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

IIRC, didn’t many staff people urge him NOT to include this in the speech and he overruled them?
Reagan become friends with Gorbachev and Eduard Schevardnadze (the Soviet foreign minister). Bush I Sec. of State James Baker even took Schevardnadze to his ranch in Wyoming for a weekend of fly-fishing.
Imagine such a thing now? Absolutely impossible.
There used to be mutual respect - and realist and humble recognition among our elites that both sides could destroy each other.
Now our arrogant neocons and DC neo-marxists live in a complete uniparty bubble, and are driven by their greed and mindless ideology.
Dangerous times.
Yes. Several times advisors edited it out and he wrote it back in.
Yet, thw Reagan years were not economically trouble-free, were they?
Every time I look at it, it reminds me of Reagan's speech that day.
There is an entire slab of the wall at the Reagan Presidential Library. That place is WELL worth visiting if you're ever in that part of California. I spent about four hours inside. Just about everything except Reagan's marriage to Jane Wyman is on display there.
The wall is back. We are the soviet union part II
………..
Hitler is back too. Klaus Schwab and his satanic WEF are the new nazis.
Of course not. Nothing turns on a dime. Reagan was not a king and even so, things don’t change fast just by nature. Healing can take time. Add to that he was still dealing against Congress except some years of Senate control.
Xi to Bidet: take down your diaper.
Back then, we had a real leader who made you feel good about yourself and your country. Remember the "Morning In America" commercials and theme?
Clearly, he was not perfect, and we had a few problems that were dealt with, but overall he was the best in my lifetime (my life goes back a long time).
While Gorbachev seemed somewhat capable, I'm not so sure. You certainly could not find anyone in Russia who would agree that he was capable. He died a lonely old man. And yet, on the other side, you had a smart, "real" man who was a great communicator and knew what we needed and how to get it done.
Compare that to today. We have a bumbling old fool as our so-called leader, and in Russia, you have a determined, no-nonsense leader who stands up to protect his country at all costs.
What a difference 36 years makes! A complete reversal. Who woulda thought?
Remember. Nothing lasts forever.
Exactly. And add that to watching to book of Revelation being played out. Talk about gut wrenching stomach aches.
I remember how the Hawks at the time felt betrayed by Reagan when he agreed to meet Gorby at Rejkjavik.
And then there was Ollie as well. AIDS a national issue, and Gomorrah on the horizon with Robert Bork preparing his prophecies of of our current times. Things were getting exciting through the exponentiation of governmental corruption, weren't they?
