Impossible to tell, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Russia is throw a few bones to them (meaning letting them have some small settlements). This is based on the BEST outcome for Russia being able to destroy all Western hardware (since its quantity is limited and replacement takes 5 to 10 years, due, in part, on their new Drag Queen content requirements).

So, if Russia shows its defenses to be a brick wall as they did for the past week, Ukraine will pull back, but still have its weapons for defense, should Russia try to liberate more of Ukraine.

So, let Ukraine move forward a bit, and then send in all they have, Russia takes out that hardware - and leaves the road to Kiev undefended.

All I have seen is Ukraine losing a lot of donated armor, including at least 3 Leo 2s (one A4, and two A6s, one of them yesterday). And the defensive lines of the Russians haven't moved an inch. In fact the Russians were filming from the site of the armor lost a few days ago which is AHEAD of their defensive lines. The Ukrainians then sent more Bradley FVs to the same location, maybe to try and recover the Leo 2, where they proceeded to lose another Bradley. That's the latest I've seen... so in short they haven't done anything yet.

The Ukrainians have lost 77 tanks of the 300 they had when this counteroffensive started and managed to take back on small village that they won't be able to hold.

But, real or lasting success isn't the goal. The goal is to do enough to assure more money flows into Ukraine.

Not really. It is a safe bet Ukraine has made small advances in two or three places on the first Russian defense line.

Commentators are over analyzing what is available. Ukrainian sources have gone OPSEC. Pro-Russian sources are flooding social media about the Ukraine column that got destroyed and the best face on what they are getting. Ukrainian sources are talking about the big picture to avoid violating OPSEC.

This is not the Gulf or Iraq wars where the US dominated and the news rode along to watch. Information from both sides is controlled. It will take days or weeks before any really reliable information is reported and there is a good idea of how this is playing out.
