Opponents say Ohio's proposed parent's bill of rights is increasingly anti-LGBTQ

A controversial bill described by supporters as giving parents more control over their children's education isbeing slammed by education and LGBTQ groups as anti-gay, anti-transgender legislation.

"I don’t want us to get further and further and closer and closer to the infamous legislation in the state of Florida, the so-called 'Don’t Say Gay' bill," Rep. Jessica Miranda, D-Forest Park, said. "This is dangerous for education here in Ohio."

House Bill 8 began as a bill requiring schools to notify parents before teaching any "sexually explicit instructional materials." Districts also had to disclose student health and wellness information to parents "unless that disclosure would result in abuse, abandonment, or neglect."

The trans/gay lobby just can't leave indoctrinating kids alone.

It does not belong in schools.

This is getting ridiculous, either abolish the public school system or go to a Voucher system that allows parents to choose any school they wish with their education dollars.

… giving parents more control over their children's education …

I don't see a problem. Evidently, the libs think that if they can't kill the kids before they are born then they can steal them and indoctrinate them!

The kids were always the objective. At the very least brain wash them but the real hope is to groom them. The pushback took way too long and it’s not strong enough but some are trying. This stuff really got going with the AIDS crap. It was used to get a foothold into the schools under the guise of health education and it began the long push to normalize every perversion imaginable

Have you noticed press bimbos ONLY call a bill 'controversial' when it might hurt sexual weirdo and progressive... Hey Anna, why the hell is protecting the rights of traditional Americans AGAINST weirdos who want to groom them and sexually mutilate and sterilize them? Why is THAT controversial?

43 years later, the Pink Floyd lyric from "The Wall", of "Hey teacher, leave those kids alone" was prophetic.

Roger Waters, is probably punching himself in the face.

Speaking as a normal Ohioan, I certainly hope so!

The Democrat Party has become truly evil. At the federal level the Parent’s Bill of Rights passed by a vote of 213-208 in the US House of Representatives with an overwhelming Democrat dissent. Noticed how few agree with the idea of parents having rights regarding their children’s education. When I was growing up our parents would have been appalled by any idea that did not place the nuclear family as the paramount institution of our country.

Note also the bill should have no hope in the Senate or with the Administration and is central to the life of the Democrat Party. Below is a link to the text of the bill, but I have excerpted some of the egregious provisions in case you don’t want to read the bill’s text.

I like particularly the finding that “The right of parents to educate their children is a pre-political natural right that the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized as ‘beyond debate’ and rooted in the ‘history and culture of Western civilization’.”

H.R.5 - Parents Bill of Rights Act

curriculum is freely and publicly available on the internet—

the detailed budget information required shall include a separate fact sheet that summarizes such information in a clear and easily understandable format.”

ensure that school provides to the parents notice that includes the name of the speaker and the name of the organization or other entity being represented by the speaker.”

A local educational agency receiving funds under this part shall ensure that widely disseminates to the public, a summary notice of the right of parents to information about their children’s education which shall be in an understandable format for parents

“(C) the right to meet with each teacher of their child not less than twice during each school year

“(D) the right to review the budget, including all revenues and expenditures, of their child’s school;

“(E) the right to a list of the books and other reading materials available in the library and inspect such books or other reading materials;

“(G) the right to address the school board of the local educational agency;

“(L) the right to know if a school employee or contractor acts to change a minor child’s gender markers, pronouns, or preferred name; or allow a child to change the child’s sex-based accommodations, including locker rooms or bathrooms;

“(M) the right to know if a school employee or contractor acts to treat, advise, or the bullying or a specific threat to the safety of a student;

“(Q) the right to know if their child’s school allows an individual whose biological sex is male to use restrooms or changing rooms designated for individuals whose biological sex is female

Congress finds the following:

“(1) The right of parents to educate their children is a pre-political natural right that the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized as ‘beyond debate’ and rooted in the ‘history and culture of Western civilization’.

“(2) Parents have a First Amendment right to express their opinions on decisions made by State and local education leaders.

“(3) States and local educational agencies should empower parents to communicate regularly with Federal, State, and local policymakers and educators regarding the education and well-being of their children.
