Olczak believes that a move on cigarettes similar to the combustion engine would have to be on a timescale that gives consumers and the industry time to respond and change.
‘Looking at what the UK is doing in the car industry, saying that as of a certain year you are not allowed to produce petrol cars, we could have this with tobacco too,’ he told the Mail.
Olczak was himself a smoker for two decades until he tried the brand’s IQOS heated tobacco device, which costs £39 for a starter kit.
Products such as
heated tobacco and e-vapes now account for nearly 35pc of total annual revenues at PMI.
Olczak, 58, also drew an analogy with the switch to energy-saving lightbulbs. ‘In different countries they had a number of investment schemes to promote research and development to see whether you can produce light with much less energy,’ he said.

When I was a teenager, I smoked for a couple years. Marlboro. I remember how tasty they were.
Is that your opinion, or are there any non-politicized studies to that fact?
Acknowledging the handwriting on the wall isn’t saying that you want it. It’s just knowing what’s going to happen. And his job is to be ready for it.
I believe it is scientifically proven that nicotine curbs the appetite.
I'm waiting for the government to provide for tobacco users at Arturo Fuente Opus X sites.
No question smoking and weight control correlate.
...followed by a sharp weight loss during chemo.
Look at how many fatties smoke still?
The thing is that there is such a thing as second-hand smoking from traditional cigarettes.
That’s not a factor for marijuana nor for e-cigarettes
When I quit smoking a few years ago, people told me the vape was a great way to wean off of cigarettes. I was looking for a “crutch,” because a couple of previous attempts to quit cold turkey had failed.
I bought a Juul vape and some cartridges. It turned out I didn’t like the vape at all and just ended up quitting the cigs cold turkey anyway.

It certainly does not fall upon ME to back up YOUR claims.
I have looked into it, and my opinion is that high end vapes do far less damage to a smoker's health than cigarettes. That's why certain health organizations encourage cigarette smokers to switch to vaping, especially as an interim to quitting altogether.
Small, bootleg vape producers occasionally market vapes with very bad ingredients, and those are what you hear about in the news.
Of course, nanny state scold organizations tend to exaggerate the dangers of vapes, the same way they make ridiculous claims against second-hand smoke.
I like to play it safe. The only tobacco products I imbibe in are cigars, and only cigars I can't afford to use on an habitual basis. Once or twice a year I enjoy a fine cigar with a couple fingers of Jim Beam.
Some people are so myopic when it comes to tobacco, they beclown themselves. Like the medical doctor who attempted to encourage my brother to pressure my father into quitting his cigar habit. Dad was 82 and had only weeks to live due to pancreatic cancer.
