U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Thursday that Ukraine’s “rightful place” is within the NATO military alliance.
Sunak said he agreed with comments made earlier Thursday by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg that Ukraine is on the path toward NATO membership.
“I agree with the NATO Secretary-General: Ukraine’s rightful place is in NATO,” Sunak told CNBC’s Silvia Amaro.
Britain’s prime minister said that allied nations were sending a “strong signal” to Russian President Vladimir Putin that they would safeguard Ukraine’s security arrangements for the long term.
“We want to make sure that we put in place security arrangements for Ukraine for the long term, so that we send a very strong signal to Vladimir Putin that we’re not going anywhere,” he said.
“We are here to stay and we will continuing backing Ukraine, not just now but for years into the future.”
Sunak was speaking in Moldova, where heads of state from EU and non-EU countries are gathered for the second annual meeting of the European Political Community.
Earlier Thursday, Stoltenberg said “NATO’s door is open for new members” ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers in Oslo, Norway.
Stoltenberg said that all members agreed that Ukraine will become a member of the alliance, though he did not give a specific timeline for the enlargement.
“All allies also agree that Ukraine will become a member of the alliance, and all allies agree that it is for the NATO allies and Ukraine to decide when Ukraine becomes a member,” Stoltenberg said.

It is a rank, naked, arrogant utilization of a mechanism to draw this country by treaty obligation ex post facto.
We should damn well withdraw from NATO if Ukraine is admitted.

People are just salivating at the concept of extending this war beyond the borders of Ukraine.

Our Betters have been groomed for Leadership from an early age, and now they are ready for leadership, endless war and limitless spending.
Europe started WW1 and WW2. And, we have spent 75 years worth of American blood and treasure trying to make them play nicely.

Hard to see how this ends without full Liberation of Ukraine, considering statements like the above render any promises of future Ukrainian neutrality moot.
At this point it’s tough to see an overall strategy by the Neocons, as there’s a bunch saying that they need to ‘freeze’ the conflict, others hoping to end the war by giving Russia some pieces of Ukraine, with both approaches meant to allow the Neocons to re-arm and to fight China.
But now people like Sunak effectively saying that fighting can only end by Russian tanks taking Kiev (plus the Nazi west of Ukraine, for that matter), or a World War 3 nuclear exchange, should NATO get directly involved.
So it makes me think that the Neocons simply aren’t able to project a coherent strategy, rather they’re consumed with their emotional blood-lust in destroying Russia that stuff to that effect just flows out of their mouths.
One wonders who Sunak's Geppetto is...
