Good luck balancing that cheery, non-crying analysis with what you see when you walk into the company’s freshly redesigned store at 2 East Roosevelt in downtown Chicago.
In what was once a typical Walgreens, there are now just two short aisles of so-called “essentials” where “customers may shop for themselves.” If you want anything else—a bottle of booze, a deodorant brand deemed “non-essential”—you’ll need to order it at a kiosk and pick it up at the counter.

Agree, I wonder what the percentage is of unplanned purchases. I bet it nears 50%. This is going to stop that percentage of the income. But how else to stop the thieving 1%?
It will happen, but a lot fewer criminals have the nerve to draw a gun and make demands, rather than just grabbing something and running out.
The Dims will say Walgreens is racist unless and the DOJ should charge them a daily fine until they make all stores in the country like that.
The democrats have deliberately destroyed the trust that there once was. They did it on purpose, so their favored criminal class can walk into a store and take whatever they want, up to $1,000, and no one will stop them.
This transfers the cost to the store and to the honest, paying customers. As always, the left punishes the good, and rewards the bad.
WIC, Welfare, Food Stamps, free phones, cable, etc. and they still feel the need to steal. What percentage were brain damaged in utero due to alcohol, drugs or abuse? Add a few contra coup injuries by being slapped around, and that’s life in the ghetto. Jesus is the only answer for these brain damaged, entitlement mentality, ferals. They are little better than locusts, and we can thank the .gov for that.

Could this world get more bizarre than it already is? You betcha. I’m envisioning something along the lines of Michael Jackson’s AI as your customer service ‘agent’.... a la Back To The Future. And...considering the “”in yer face”” attitude of the woke left, I’m betting the AI sims will be much more offensive.
I was going to post something similar. Modern version is online orders only. Curbside delivery or pickup only after CC or similar payment has been made and approved.
I would not be surprised if that rapidly starts to become the norm. Fits in well with the push for a “cashless” society.
