I dunno. This was one stupid cop.
What reasoning did he give for shooting the kid?
Makes it sound kind of bad don't you think?
Is there any cam video? Every officer should have his cam on when encountering the public.
Was this a little 70 lb kid or a 170 lb 6 ft figure popping out unexpectedly.
That split second between shoot don't shoot is a bad place to be.
“You have got to be kidding me.”
Had you done the exact same thing as the cop did would you get away with it?
That’s always my litmus test for police misbehavior is whether or not their actions would be illegal if they were mere civilians.
This goes to my three requirements of law enforcement:
1. Uphold and defend the Constitution you swore to uphold and defend.
2. Obey the laws you enforce.
3. Don’t be a dick.
Three simple rules.
How would you feel if a cop shot your kid in the chest for apparently no reason in your own home?
There is probably more to the story, but still...
The picture of the cop shows him wearing a body cam, but the article makes no mention of video
That didn’t take long, did it. And the kid survived.
Granted, some people care for nothing but the buck. So sue at the drop of a hat. On the other hand, an unarmed kid gets shot in the chest. There must be a serious consequence for doing that, a criminal charge or a civil action. Or both.
And as a side note, the article does not explain WHY the cop fired his weapon. Was he startled by a movement in the dark?
This has been alleged:
Police ordered everyone in the house to show themselves with their hands up, he said. When the 11-year-old came out of a bedroom with his hands up, he was met by gunfire, the attorney said.
“He shot him immediately when his hands were up, and he’s coming around the corner,”

I have not reading anything that could possibly justify the shooting.
I would sue every dime I could if a cop shot my 11 y.o. son and nearly killed him. An 11 y.o. who called 911 for help.
I would want that cop criminally charged, the force purged and retrained.
What does the body cam show? The picture of Officer Capers has him wearing a body cam.
People behave badly but so do the police.
Which is why to my mantra of "carry always carry" I have added "record always record". And not to the cloud either.
So let's see the unredacted body cam footage.
Nutella Murry hasn’t missed a meal in years.
