The poll, which sampled respondents from May 26-28, found little movement for DeSantis after he launched a presidential bid last week. It also showed Trump maintaining a large lead over GOP hopefuls.

In other words, that means DeSantis’s announcement–which face serious technical issues on his Twitter Spaces move with Elon Musk–does not seem to have changed the trajectory of the race at all.
DeSantis also performed worse than Trump against Biden in a hypothetical general matchup among all voters. Forty-three percent said they would vote for Biden, while 40 percent backed DeSantis. Meanwhile, the voters split their support behind both Trump and Biden at 43 percent each.
“These numbers may be best considered as a test of electability — a key issue in party primaries that carries all the more significance this time around given concerns about Trump’s baggage and whether the GOP should work to maintain Trump’s coalition or to try to expand its base,” Yokley wrote.

While the 34-point lead is slightly less than Trump’s lead earlier in May when the same pollster showed Trump leading by 43 points, that constricting appears to have happened per the pollster before DeSantis’s announcement.
“Trump leads DeSantis, 56% to 22%, following the Florida governor’s May 24 announcement,” Morning Consult’s Eli Yokley wrote. “The 34-percentage point advantage marks a 10-point decline in the former president’s lead since mid-May, but much of that dip came before DeSantis officially began his bid.”
. . . . In addition, the poll found Trump is the most popular candidate among GOP hopefuls at 79 percent. Seventy-one percent viewed DeSantis favorably, 57 percent viewed Pence favorably, and 49 percent viewed Haley favorably.
The poll sampled 3,485 potential GOP primary voters from May 26-28 with a 2 point margin of error. Among all voters, the poll sampled about 4,000 registered voters from May 16-28 with a one point margin of error.
Trump may win...but the idea he will beat DeSantis by 30+ points is ridiculous...
It’s going to be a very long and disappointing summer, fall and spring for the folks pushing Desantis.
A LOT of money is going to be burned with little to no return on this candidate.
Was support for DeSantis, “baked into the cake” as some say, since it was the worst kept secret in politics, that he was going to run for president?
Which means that, there was not any groundswell of support for a new candidate in the race, because everyone following politics, expected him to announce. He didn’t gain any new support upon announcing his candidacy.
Trump lost my support a long time ago...If he is the nominee I will vote for him but would never support him again.
DeSantis ruined his political career by taking advice and being influenced by the likes of Karl Rove and the Bush family. Trump/DeSantis ‘24 would have been unbeatable and DeSantis would have become President in 2028. The Democrats and globalists are joyful that this Republican civil war is allowing them to remain in power and continue the destruction of the American nation.
Why? Do you believe the lies and false accusations? I only believe what he did for us.
Trump has earned the right to be cheated out of a second win by the JoeBama Deep State; for what it’s worth, he has my vote.
Gov, do the right thing. Join Trump as VP which will ensure 12 years of solid conservative government. Together you can drain the swamp!
Keep on dreaming. Meanwhile, in the real world conservatives are disgusted with Trump’s demeaning smear of Kayleigh McEnany. DeSantis is running on his conservative record while Trump starts one juvenile food fight after another. The contrast couldn’t be greater.
Somewhere, between his ice cream cones and cheat sheets for press conferences, Joe Biden and the Democrats are smiling at this news.
I heard he was only leading by 25. That’s great, but it’s not 34.
“It’s only going to get worse for your candidate as the MAGA voters become more and more aware of what a faker he is.”
My concern for President Trump is that he has promised the American people that he is thinking up a plan to “negotiate” a deal with the abortion industry that “everyone” will support.
That “everyone will support” sounds good to my ears - but it doesn’t seem reasonable.
Can President Trump really negotiate such a compromise or is he just saying that?
If people were to get the idea he is faking a compromise plan that could be a problem for him.
And it could have been put into the development of voting strategies and harvesting. Instead, we get to hear anti-Trumpers and conservative media use the same tactics as the left to bash Trump. How about people like Massie? Just heard him on Glenn Beck. He’s as phony as his endorsements. Beck called him on it.
you said ..”DeSantis ruined his political career by taking advice and being influenced by the likes of Karl Rove and the Bush family.”
1st I consider myself a glass crawling Trump voter, he could eat a kitten on the capitol steps and I would still vote for him.
But ...
I’m trying to find the real info on the bushy connection, any
links or info you could share would be great.
We need a brash, tough, fighter ... Trump may not be perfect in all his positions ... but he knows how to engage.
On the other hand Desantis has spoken out on this dept travesty.
Trump needs to disavow this deal LOUDLY.
” the idea that he will beat DeSantis by 30+ points is ridiculous “
I agree. More like 60 points. 😆
It sort of resembles 2016.
The commentators/pundits had Scott Walker as the presumptive nominee in the early days of the 2016 cycle. Walker did announce, but his campaign sputtered and he dropped out two months later.
I am holding out for Asa’s popularity to skyrocket. [I will be long dead from holding my breath for that to happen.]
And to Chrispy Cream joins the fray.
Poor Liz. Even some of the grads at her ole alma mater don’t like her.
I will still support DeSantis for president...
...in 2028.
Right now, my full support is with Trump.
Trump will win and finish the job that he was interrupted in doing. He needs a candidate that could carry on the job after 2028, and DeSantis is my pick for that.
No matter how much they go after each other this go’round, it should be Trump/DeSantis in 2024.
