“Pruned” ?

No, it needs to be savagely burned to the ground in a raging white hot all consuming fire.

> “DeSantis says he would welcome bill to abolish ‘corrupt’ IRS: ‘We need something totally different’”

Yeah, it’s called the FairTax and it’s been around for a decade, reintroduced on the House floor under Speaker McCarthy. And it’s solid, just waiting for it’s time.

And it ain’t Meatball’s work.

DeDummy thinks we are fools.

He’s pushing soundbites written to swoon conservatives. His scriptwriters are a group working under Rove. They think they know how to push conservatives buttons.

Like Stormy peddling her boobs, the Rovians using DeSenseless think we conservatives will gush at their concocted conservatives campaign confab.

Won’t work Morons!

When the Republicans took the House and Senate in 1994, lots of promises were made. Rep Dick Armey (R-TX) suggested that the GOP would abolish the income tax, and perhaps even the IRS.

Nothing came of it.

The flatness of the tax, although important, is not the real problem. You can have a very progressive, yet very simple tax. The tax rate (other than capital gains) affects one line which most people look up in a chart rather than multiply out to convert from income made to tax paid.

The problem is the thousands of tax deductions and credits which Congress has put in. Buy insulation for your house, get a credit. Work as a teacher and buy supplies, get a credit. Buy an electric car, get a credit. Pay house interest, get a deduction. And a thousand other "do a trick, get a dog biscuit" lines in the tax code.

Cut out all of the social engineering from the tax code and make taxes simple enough so that you no longer need an accountant or a computer program to do your taxes.

I like the national sales tax because it charges one rate and requires no effort from the final tax payer. I don't like how easy it is to cheat and how much incentive there is to cheat. I am also concerned that it would reward past bad behavior and punish past good behavior (see, even I have the urge to social engineering) in that those who borrowed and spent before will be untaxed while those who saved to spend in the future would have been taxed upon earning and taxed again upon spending.

A flat tax, for all its faults, is the cleanest and most fair. No deductions, no loopholes, no special interests, no carve outs. If you made a dollar last year, send in a dime. I don’t care about your mortgage, your gifts, your medical expenses, your marital status.

Start taxing at $20K/year, no top stop.

This is why DeSantis comes across as a total loser. It’s the answer a lawyer-politician gives.

You’re a presidential candidate, for heaven’s sake. Don’t tell me what you’d “welcome” from Congress. Tell me what you stand for, tell me what you want Congress to do, and tell me what you’re doing to do to light a fire under their asses.

His response here is exactly why nothing ever gets fixed in Washington.

I like how Trump ran the country for four years. Would love to see it run that way again. But I’m analytical and honest enough to judge the Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. political action committee’s ad claiming “Ron DeSalesTax” wants to raise federal taxes is total BS. It’s a disservice to Trump, conservatives, and everybody who wants to dismantle the IRS.

You can be for or against a “fair tax act” and debate it on its own terms. Misleading people into believing that it is yet another tax on top of others is dishonest. It is EXACTLY what the dims do. If Trump criticized the ad and MAGA Inc. for this dishonest attack, Trump would regain a lot of credibility and cache. Otherwise, he participating in small ball, cheep political BS...which will push me farther and farther away if it continues.

If the GOPe folds on the debt mess again there will be no republican congress in 2024 (possibly senate too) to present tax reform to any president elected so the whole tax thing is a moot point. The “red wave” never materialized last year and it is most obvious why, it would appear the days of voting for the lesser of evils is over and has been for some time.

And this week, DeSantis wins back some of my support.

Going to be a popcorn worthy primary season.

Put the corrupt in jail. Simplify taxes. These are two different things.

I propose:

Fifty tax bills! One to Each State!

Abolish the IRS completely! Send a tax bill to each state bases on the census population count. Let each state figure out how to collect the money.

Result:
The most efficient, least economically damaging, and compassionate way to raise tax revenue would emerge.

Whatever the irs gets replaced with, what will prevent future agents of the new agency that replaced the old irs from acting as corrupt as they are now.

Tear down, replace it, they’ll still behave badly.

That’s been the DeSantis plan all along - to replace the unconstitutional IRS with a flat/fair tax, so even billionaires like Trump and welfare recipients alike all have to pay the same rate as everyone else.

Yet Trump has put out these 100% dishonest adds claiming that DeSantis wants to RAISE taxes by 23% on everyone, when the truth is obviously that DeSantis wants to REPLACE all other taxes with the flat 23%.

It’s past time some Trump supporters call out Trump for this deceitful new ad campaign which is unfairly attacking a true conservative proposal.

DeSantis is delusional if he really thinks he’d ever be able to “defund” the IRS...or any alpha Gov agency. It has become ingrained in American society to accept our big “G” masters now. Those of us that are against it are in the minority. And thousands (millions?) of illegals....soon to be deemed “legal citizens that vote”.... are flooding across our border daily to cement that mentality for future generations.

I don’t like politicians and I especially don’t like politicians that make fantasy-like promises. Sorry, but no sell. He would do better to just fall back on the “secure the border” line like Trump did.

Last I read on this topic from DeSantis, he was in favor of a 23% Sales Tax.

That's a non-starter with me. Abolish the IRS. Cut all foreign aid. Restore all import tarriff's and fees as the founding fathers intended to run the country on.

Then we can talk.

So desantis wants to switch to another kind of tax? What solution does he have for people who are retired? ....who paid income tax all their working lives, and have no income to pay from to feed some other tax structure?

Well, nothing like a little grandstanding to get people's attention.

Sorry to say it because there was a time when one was impressed with him. But - he still needs to prove the negative that he's not mixed up with the Bushes and Karl Rove and their ilk.

After Trump, no more Bush Republicans, not never ever.
