France bans short-haul flights where trains are available

Paris CNN —

A ban on short domestic flights for journeys that can be completed in two-and-a-half hours by train was signed into law in France on Tuesday.

Clement Beaune, France’s transport minister, heralded the decree.

“This is an essential step and a strong symbol in the policy of reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” Beaune said in a statement.

“As we fight relentlessly to decarbonize our lifestyles, how can we justify the use of the plane between the big cities which benefit from regular, fast and efficient connections by train,” he added.

Only three routes have been discontinued: those linking Paris-Orly airport to the cities of Bordeaux, Nantes and Lyon. Connecting flights will be unaffected.

For the ban to apply, the EU insisted the air route in question must have a high-speed rail alternative that makes it possible to travel between the two cities in less than two-and-a-half hours. There must also be enough early and late-running trains to enable travelers to spend at least eight hours at the destination.

Well, when vaxxed pilots are getting heart attacks, this is one way around the pilot shortage.

The first short-haul flight that is used by Marcon or some other gov official is going to set many frogs off.

I’ll bet those with private jets can still make those flights.

“decarbonize our lifestyles” This idiot does not even know what that means. Carbon is one element essential for life, the backbone of all organic molecules. DNA, photosynthesis, hormones, plastics, and nearly everything else is dependent on the element. A parrot for John Kerry.

It says that connecting flights are unaffected. So if you fly from US to Lyon or Bordeaux you can still connect through Paris.
France has TGVs from Paris to all the major French cities and it’s a lot faster than going by plane or car.

France bans short-haul flights where trains are available

Does that include private jets and helicopters? Or does it only affect the hoi polloi?

Need it be said that the French government owns the railroad?

It had been privately owned, but the owners cooperated with the Nazies during the Occupation, so they lost the railroad.

Well, that sure sounds kind of ‘bossy’.
Doesn’t Macron want the airfare money going into the economy?
People can only drink so much wine, then they have to go home.
America is not far from that level of Socialism, but we aren’t there quite yet.

But why stop there? Ban short-haul train runs in favor of bicycle rides. But wait. I recently read that bicycle tires give off harmful gases (not kidding). So ban short-haul bicycle rides in favor of walking. Old folks can crawl.

Look, it’s just this simple. France needs to preserve the environment for their eventual Muslim overlords.

Europe’s trains are better than ours.It seems like a good idea to *choose* a short train ride (city center to city center) than a short flight (airport to airport).
