Now, after a long life, I've come to understand how common it is for many basically nice, well meaning people to do terrible things in their lives. When few — that is, on the micro-level — are involved, it may destroy families and communities. When many do it, whole civilizations may be destroyed. It is why, particularly on the macro-level, I care little about niceness. As regards people I rely on outside my home — presidents, teachers, airline pilots, doctors, architects, investment advisers, my rabbi — I don't care fundamentally if I'd enjoy hanging out with them. I care about their work product.
Many, on the other hand, care deeply about niceness. They regularly get blinded by its superficiality and the destructiveness it may conceal. They suffer — we all do — the consequences.
Not being naïve and led astray by niceness is an important rule of life. It brings clarity to how one should approach, especially, the many nice folks in our lives now doing terrible things to our country.
Things are much worse in our country now, decades later. Half of America, tens of millions of basically nice folks are hell-bent on destroying all the core values of this wonderful country. The wall has been breached, the foundation unmoored, the center given way, the abyss entered. We watch each day as virtually every norm, tradition, custom and institution of America has been destroyed or is under powerful assault from many nice people.

O dear Lord, forgive me for being so nasty in my opposition to the “gay” and trans agendas, and to those who steal elections! Amen!
Sadly, suffrage ushered in our suffering.
It’s more the affluent suburban women people are complaining about. I doubt if they moved to Trump. It was more working class and rural women who did. The shift in men away from Trump may have been because they expected more from Trump or because they bought Joe’s “jes’ folks” routine.
If posters are harder on affluent suburban women or young unmarried women than on affluent suburban men or yuppie guys, it may be because the women seem to be the ones in charge. Many of the men are content with making money, so it’s the women who become the activists.
Very good post!
The 47% of white women who did not support President Trump are way more militant than the 53% who did.
It is about overall societal impact. Leftist white women are way more effective.
It’s a numbers thing. It’s just that there are so many nutball white women. I just came back from a convention that had multitudes of them. They would sell the country into slavery because one Republican somewhere is against all abortions. It’s depressing.
Donahue paved the way for Oprah and The View. But you have to be of a certain age to remember Donahue.
Nice people are not the same as good people.
Can you imagine Jews after WW2 going, "you know what? I think I'll vote Nazi because they seem to have our best interests at heart."? That's how insane it is for young adults to support the Dims who are loud and proud about aborting away 1/3rd of the young-un's.
They aren’t nice.
Those smiles hide an evil heart.
I remember Pat Schroeder on tv.
All smiley, but with a black heart.
Trying to destroy our country.
That is a very worthy and humble testimony.
Or self-righteousness, especially if she has a gay nephew.
The people who will vote for a pedo crime family because they “don’t like mean Tweets”.
Captain Kangaroo for grown-ups.
Fixed it.
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. It was ever thus.
Very good piece.
Remember also that women in Michigan and Kansas voted overwhelmingly for Dem governors who would protect their right to abortion.
Read Dennis Prager’s commentary on Deuteronomy and why Moses was to pick wise and discerning leaders, with no mention of kind or good being a requirement. That’s because good, kind, and caring people can make terrible decisions with terrible consequences.
I also don’t understand the reverence for abortion. There are plenty of ways to not get pregnant.
Nailed it.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’d give up my right to vote if it meant no women could vote.
Too many stupid ones out there, driven by emotion instead of logic.
