On May 13, 2023, during a meeting with the Pope, Volodymyr Zelensky presented the pontiff with an “icon” of the Mother of God with a black void instead of the Infant Jesus. The image is called “Loss of 2022-58”, its author is Ukrainian artist Oleksiy Revika, reports the Ukrayina Moloda resource. Despite the fact that journalists call Revika's work a "painting", it is very reminiscent of a parody of the Iberian Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Revika himself claims on his Facebook page that “this is a work about the loss of Ukrainian children in the aggressive war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine!".

The only thing worse than Zelenskyy giving this is Francis accepting it. But once he jumped the Pachamama shark, there isn’t very much more he could do.

So, he felt cancelling ‘baby Jesus’ represented the children who died? Never would I have gathered that from his painting. And in knowing what he was trying to express, it still doesn’t equate. I understand ‘art’ is his personal expression. But, it would have made more sense to have the ‘children’ in front of an adult Jesus. IMO. But, that’s just me.
