Former President Donald Trump is backed by 70 percent of Kentucky Republicans in his quest for the Republican presidential nomination, according to an Emerson College/Fox 56 Lexington poll.

The poll published Sunday shows that 70 percent of “very likely” GOP primary voters in Kentucky say they support Trump for the nomination, giving him a 56-point advantage over his nearest potential competitor, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who is at 14 percent. Trump’s edge has grown by a net 17 points in just one month, as April’s Emerson College/Fox 56 Lexington poll out of Kentucky showed him leading DeSantis 62 percent to 23 percent:

2024 Kentucky Republican Primary Polling Trends by Emerson College (A-)

April:
• Trump — 62% (+39)
• DeSantis — 23%
• Pence — 4%
• Haley — 4%

MAY:
• Trump — 70% (+56)
• DeSantis — 14%
• Pence — 4%
• Haley — 3%
• Ramaswamy — 3% pic.twitter.com/BzLQqvOapg

As was the case in April, no other declared or potential candidate garners more than four percent support in the latest poll. Four percent of respondents back former Vice President Mike Pence, while three percent back former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) draws two percent, while one percent support Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who is set to announce a decision on a White House run in late May.

The survey also gauged support for Tuesday’s Republican gubernatorial primary in Kentucky, finding that Trump-endorsed candidate Attorney General Daniel Cameron enjoys a double-digit lead over the field, having 33 percent of support. Another 18 percent of respondents back former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft, followed by Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, who has 13 percent, and attorney Eric

Trump’s record considers Trump to be a RINO.

The only thing he could do well was stick to picking judges from a list that someone handed him - which was very important, but anyone could do that.

Interesting to hear people’s opinions. These threads are full of people saying that DeSantis is a RINO, and Trump is the true MAGA conservative.

Which POTUS was as successful as Trump? Look at what Trump accomplished:

  1. Gas price per gallon was about $2.30;
  2. Inflation about 1.4%, mortgage rates were half of what they are now;
  3. Unemployment was low before Covid and before Blue Governors shut everything down and we were in the midst of a V-shape recovery until January 22, 2021;
  4. Tax decrease; tax laws promoted small businesses as well as large;
  5. US enjoyed energy independence - No Green Agenda, no war on energy, No Paris Treaty;
  6. No war in Ukraine, no threat of nuclear war, NATO paid its way;
  7. China was quiet and we were winning the trade war;
  8. US companies were bringing home the jobs due to well executed tax treatments;
  9. Peace in the Middle East aka Abraham Accords; US Embassy moved to Jerusalem; and Iran was isolated.
  10. Got three non-left “I don't know what a woman is” Supreme Court Justices on the bench allowing Roe vs Wade to be overturned.

Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?

What part of Trump's first administration was not conservative?

Was it:

  1. Low inflation?
  2. Low unemployment, especially for blue collar work?
  3. Rising real wages?
  4. Standing up to China and tariffs?
  5. Building a wall and having the most secure border since the 1960s?
  6. Cheap gas, super high oil production?

That is an incomplete list but please tell us what is not conservative about any of those things?

An interesting poll would be how many republicans would never vote for Trump again. And independents?

People looking at politics like a sporting event will jump around every primary—gleeful that Trump has won more delegates. Then, when the general comes around again…they will be scratching their heads as they had done in the two previous cycles. They will wonder how they got “robbed” again.

“The Republican Party is chock-full of peeps that can wait to side with Dems and criticize Trump.”

The Republican party is chock-full of Only Trumpers who don’t mind Trump attacking DeSantis and giving the Dems fodder to attack.

Notice how I speak in specifics and they speak in vague terms. They support every single thing that RD is doing, but they can’t admit it currently because their heartthrob demands complete allegiance without scrutinizing his record.

Describing the man who is arguably our most principled Representative as “butthurt” isn’t useful.

It will all work out in the end.

Yes, I would be sad if the stupid party lives down to their name and ensures 4 more years of this half-dead Marxist puppet by nominating that RINO blowhard once again.

Stupid would be nominating a Pale-Pastel copy, Trump Mini-Me like DeSanctimonious and then watching him get Crushed by any Loser nominated by the Democrats.

By the time the primaries get to Kentucky, it will be decided long before who the nominee will be.

This is why I'm thinking of going for DeSantis in the primary, because some of you are having DDS (DeSantis Derangement Syndrome). Are you not going to vote for DeSantis if he wins? Sometimes, I think I'm at the DemocratUnderground.

The reason why we are losing is that the Democrats are united. They don't call the front runner a DINO. Some Dems in conservative areas are united on most issues, but we can't do that - DeSantis is a RINO, no Trump is. Both would be great, IMHO.

Really, you're going to vote for desantis?

desantis has shown he has deliberately lied about his intent to run for president, even back with the re-election debate with crist.

He has shown he likes to play games and jerk people around, by his lack of announcement about running for president.

He has a billionaire funding is stealth presidential campaign pac neverbackdown.

And desantis has just illegally laundered his state fund raised donations, into a fund that will be for his federal presidential run, where conversion of such funds is illegal per FEC.

Please tell us why, nevertrumpers/desantis supporters want people to believe desantis, who jerks people around, who tells lies and deliberately deceives people without qualms, and is willing to do fraudulent acts to become president, is the best person to be president?

How would you ever know when he was telling the truth about anything or what he's going to do?
