VAjbmyerhenderson4

Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall is a Joint Base of the United States military that is located around Arlington, Virginia which is made up of Fort Myer (Arl), Fort McNair (SW DC), and Henderson Hall. It is the local residue of the Base Realignment and Closure, 2005 process. It is commanded by the United States Army but has resident commands of Army, Navy, & Marines. Most notable is the Arlington National Cemetery Honor Guard.

Fort Myer is headquarters to service personnel working throughout the National Capital Region. The post provides housing, support, and services to thousands of active-duty, reserve, and retired military, members of the U.S. Coast Guard, and their families stationed in the United States Army Military District of Washington. The JBMHH's mission is to operate the Army's community and support Homeland Security in the nation's capital.

Stationed here are The First and Fourth battalions of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard); since August 2011, 'A' Company (Commander in Chief's Guard), which was stationed at Fort McNair, D.C; and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own".

The gravesite of Black Jack, the riderless horse in the state funerals of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur and U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy, Herbert Hoover, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Lyndon B. Johnson, is located on Summerall Field, 200 feet northeast of the parade ground's flagpole.

Henderson Hall owes its name to Colonel (Brevet Brigadier General) Archibald Henderson, fifth commandant of the Marine Corps. Born in Colchester, Virginia, Jan. 21, 1783, he was appointed a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps June 4,1806; promoted to first lieutenant March 6, 1807; to captain April 1, 1811; and was appointed a major, by brevet, in the year 1814.

As a captain during the War of 1812, Henderson participated in the engagements with the British war ships HMS Cyane and HMS Levant on April 20, 1815. He received a silver medal and was included in the thanks of Congress to the officers and men of the USS Constitution for gallant service. He was later presented with a jeweled sword by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Known by God

Bible in a Year:

[Mary] turned toward him and cried out . . . “Rabboni!”

John 20:16 After two brothers were separated by adoption, a DNA test helped to reunite them almost twenty years later. When Kieron texted Vincent, the man he believed was his brother, Vincent thought, Who is this stranger? When Kieron asked him what name he’d been given at birth, he immediately answered, “Tyler.” Then he knew they were brothers. He was recognized by his name!

Consider how a name plays a key role in the Easter story. As it unfolds, Mary Magdalene comes to Christ’s tomb, and she weeps when she finds His body missing. “Woman, why are you crying?” Jesus asks (John 20:15). She didn’t recognize Him, however, until He spoke her name: “Mary” (v. 16).

Hearing Him say it, she “cried out in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni!’ (Which means ‘Teacher’)” (v. 16). Her reaction expresses the joy believers in Jesus feel on Easter morning, recognizing that our risen Christ conquered death for all, knowing each of us as His children. As He told Mary, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God” (v. 17).

In Georgia, two reunited brothers bonded by name, vowed to take “this relationship to the next level.” On Easter, we praise Jesus for already taking the utmost step to rise in sacrificial love for those He knows as His own. For you and me, indeed, He’s alive!

Reflect & Pray

How does it feel knowing that Jesus rose again and knows you by name? How can you know Him better?

Your knowledge of me is humbling, dear Jesus. Thank You for the sacrificial gift of Your knowing love.

In the ‘50s and ‘60s I was at Ft Myer a few more times than I wanted to be. The Ft Myer Dispensery served medical care to military dependents, including me.

The Dispensery parking lot butted up against Arlington Cemetery and sometimes I’d get to see the escort form up for a burial that included the horse drawn caisson.

Howdy, Kathy.

Keeping the appendages crossed that this week won’t be too crazy for you.

Lookin’ better and better up there. Warm temps and a stiff breeze have made quite a bit more snow disappear today.

Germany’s THREE Surrenders - VE-Day Special
Mark Felton Productions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1QnZDY-YiM

The German surrender was no easy ride - it took THREE separate surrender ceremonies before the war came officially to an end on this day 78 years ago. Find out the full story here...

Check comments below the video:

“I was watching the news this morning, and they had a WW2 veteran on the program, but not just any vet. He is the last surviving person to witness the surrender of Germany, and in fact was the soldier that escorted the Germans into Ike’s chambers after they signed the surrender documents. His name is Louis Graziano, 100 years old.”
