Neighbors frustrated by Rochester Rite Aid's upcoming closure
WHAM radio ^ | 5/4/2023 | Cheyanne Walker

Scott Winkler, who lives in the area, has been a loyal customer of the Rite Aid store for three years. He recently found out the pharmacy was closing, leaving him and other residents in the neighborhood without easy access to essential medications.

"Somebody has to stand up for what's right, and that is a pharmacy that is an intricate part of this area," Winkler said. "Now it's gone, and the only thing we have left is Family Dollar — and hopefully they won't close."

With the pharmacy closing, Winkler will no longer be able to walk over to get his medications. Instead, he will have to take two buses and go to a nearby Walmart to fill his prescriptions.

Winkler is particularly concerned about the impact on the elderly residents in the community who may have difficulty traveling to get their medication.

Mayor Malik Evans expressed his disappointment with Rite Aid's decision to close the pharmacy. He said that the city had been working to keep such stores open and was caught off guard by the announcement.

"It's still shameful that in this day and age we still have stores that have been supported by the city of Rochester for hundreds of years, but they have no problem turning their back on our city," Evans said.

"My family has history in Rochester."

What part of Rochester did they live? I lived on the west side of the city, on a small street off Jay Street, near Ames Street...what they called Dutchtown. I graduated from Madison High School in 1965. It was down the street from Bulls Head where St. Mary's Hospital still is.

When I joined ancestry.com a few years ago, and started working on my family tree, I discovered I had ancestors from Germany as well...mostly from the Germanic period. My father was born in Holland, but the Germany ancestry came from my mother's side. She was born in Canada, and her family roots were mostly from England. I've got 21% Germany in my DNA summary. 22% Denmark and Sweden. Nobody in my family ever knew that.

Good point.

Wonder if like having one correct answer in mathematics the correct word will be criticized as racist. They actually tried to force teachers to learn and then teach “bilingual” forced ebonics and English in school systems.

True website example:
Examples of Ebonics
“She BIN had dat han’-made dress” (SE=She’s had that hand-made dress for a long time, and still does.)
“Ah ‘on know what homey be doin.” (SE=I don’t know what my friend is usually doing.) “I ask Ruf could she bring it ovah to Tom crib.”(SE=I asked Ruth if/whether she could bring it over to Tom’s place.)

What kind of area is this?

Not the best part of town. There is most likely a lot of shoplifting. The previous Rochester mayor was forced to resign for campaign finance law violations. Her husband had been previously charged and convicted of drug and firearms violations.

“Stand up for what’s right” he says…. Well the district attorney just did that for you. He stood up for what’s right….. shoplifting , that’s what they all stood up for.

Want pharmacies and other much-needed stores in your neighborhood? Then stop shoplifting at them. They are in business to make money, not to supply local turds with whatever their greedy eyes want.

What about a post office box? Wouldn't that be more secure?

Can’t get to a drug store but can make it to a post office? Most likely trading one problem of another

In the 1970s, during the race riots, I felt safer in Rochester NY than I do today while travelling THROUGH Seattle and Portland.

Odd, that seems.

Perhaps “Mayor Malik” should tell his constituents to stop STEALING EVERYTHING THAT AIN’T NAILED DOWN and maybe the stores would hang around!

So you’re saying people are going from mailbox to mailbox stealing drugs...and 1 out of 5000 people are receiving drugs through the mail.

That area is store poor...like much of the city. When we started plazas...neighborhood stores went away.

26 million people receive their meds through the mail. Try CVS, Walmart...

Mail theft is a very common crime in many area now days and has been for sometime.

For instance, USPS claims that there are as many as 1.7 million cases of mail thefts daily. Over a third (36%) of all Americans who deal with the postal service have once experienced a mail theft case.Jan 10, 2022

A quick search of the internet will confirm this

Thugs and criminals in positions of power are one of the definitions of ‘hellhole’ culture... of course they would defend the shoplifters...

You’re right - it was a beautiful city.

Our grandfathers and great grandfathers build American’s amazing cities - - sadly most now becoming democrat hellholes...
