Let's put mass shooting issue into perspective

Perspective matters, but it’s not difficult to have one’s perspective skewed horribly. All that needs to happen is to have something presented often enough as a massive issue of epic scale and you’ll likely believe it to be so absent anyone showing otherwise.

Take mass shootings, as an example.

Sure, they’re awful, but many like to pretend they’re the biggest threat to life we have. We simply need to upend our entire lives, forfeit our rights, and anything else demanded because if not, our kids are going to be gunned down.

Yet a report trying to pin mass shootings on gun proliferation actually shows just how minuscule the problem really is.

Yeah, but 100,000 + drug ODs per year? Meh!

Drug ODs are essentially suicides, and nobody panics over suicides. If people were dosing strangers with fentanyl to murder them, then people would panic.

The fact that we have so few of such shootings in a country of 300+ million is remarkable. Per capita, I feel sure there were more gunshot deaths in the USA in 1880 than there are now.

We did that already with the wot. Left and Right couldn't wait to give .gov more power and control of our lives.

The political narrative has always surrounded the asocial and criminal behavior of Democrat party client groups.

They had their back against the wall and had to come up with something, and it’s worked for 50 years, but maybe there are some cracks forming around the edges. The lie depended on ignoring exactly WHO was doing the killing, and the dying. It’s still forbidden to point out that murder is practically a monopoly of the “urban” teenage male, but the press is losing its ability to control the narrative. The Democrat party thinks that they’ve got two issues that will carry them to a permanent supermajority: abortion and gun control, which is all predicated on the sudden expansion of the Generation Z vote due to universal mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting.

It’s going to be very hard to overcome that, but young people aren’t necessarily stupid, they’ve just been kept ignorant. And they’re the most on-line generation in history. Exposing them to the truth could change everything.

Just curious, for debate sake. How many children have to be killed before admitting there is a problem with to easy access to guns? Is the 2nd Amendment a suicide pact? It is true that countries with stricter to almost full firearm bans have less shootings. It is also true there are countries with high firearm ownership have less shootings then we do. What if gun ownership was graduated with graduated with training? The more advanced training the higher tier you have available, and the training is offered through school and/or low cost like done with CCW? Storage and lock requirements? 10 round magazine limit? Red Flag Laws that take Due Process into account? The old answer of “Muh 2nd Amenment” isn’t a winning argument. It will be the side that offers up ‘solutions’ that will win the day. They can be good solutions or bad solutions. it’s up to each of us to decide which route that takes.

I missed a typo - Gun ownership graduated with the types of firearms you can possess with corresponding training.

The left presents itself daily as totalitarian psychopaths.

You're buying in to Lib-Tard claptrap when you call it a "Mass Shooting."

If you play by their rules, they will win, so smarten up or board the short bus.

Flawed premise and a cheap leftwing talking point.

Who’s buying their lies? Well, too many people apparently. See #9 this thread.

it’s not an emotional plea. It’s a simple question. Is there an upper limit of school shootings before the messaging war is lost completely? If the current trajectory holds and the only response from one side is arm everybody, harden targets, and it’s just the way it is, within 10 years, if not less the demands to restrict guns will swing so hard that Universal Background checks will seem like a fond wish. Republicans and Conservatives are already potentially throwing another election cycle away. Thomas and Alito are 74 and 73 respectively. The next president could replace 1 or 2 of those in the next term. So go ahead and mock. Place your head firmly in the sand. Joke about boating accidents. Instead of simple common sense and educational based ideas your attitude will lead to outright bans, reclassifications under NFA, and more. And don’t even start with that CWII crap. Most on here wouldn’t make it past the first mile of a march, much less engaging young men in their prime in combat. It’s a silly notion to begin with.

I don’t care if it is one kid killed. Or an adult for that matter. The short bus is full of arm chair patriots shouting ‘Muh Second Amenment’ and MAGA! The 2nd Amendment, like the 1st requires some level of responsibility and we as a nation have failed in that. Somethings are as simple as proper education about firearms in school. It could be part of Civics, which is sorely lacking also. It is also time to soul search regarding why it is so easy to get guns, steal unsecured guns, and generally arm oneself to the point where you can easily pack 100-200 rounds and reload in a matter of seconds.

Banning guns for people with an IQ less than 90 would solve a lot of the criminal use of firearms problems.
