The Guardian ^ | 5/1/23 | Peter Beaumont

Russian missiles have struck warehouses reportedly storing ammunition at a railway depot in the Ukrainian city of Pavlohrad, in an apparent effort to slow Kyiv’s preparations for its much anticipated counteroffensive expected to start shortly.

Video posted on social media showed secondary detonations amid a significant blaze at the site of the strike, which came amid overnight missile launches against a number of Ukrainian cities by Russian strategic bombers. ...

The size of the fire in Pavlohrad suggests Russia may have hit an important arms depot and comes after Ukraine’s recent attack on an oil storage facility in Sevastopol, Crimea. ...

I don’t believe this report at all. From what I’ve read, right here on FR, Putin is hiding in a bunker waiting for Ukrainian Special Forces to snatch him for war crimes and the Russian military is in total disarray with no missiles or anyone to fire them. /sarc/

Seriously, just why do the Ukes have massive piles of ammo stored at just one location? It makes for a perfect target. The Ruskie missiles are destroying millions if not billions of dollars worth of western aid, most from the US. It’s gross incompetence. The only good news is losing all this ammo might shorten the war.

There will come a time when the Russians will be forced to hit staging areas on actual NATO soil in some escalated future offensive. That is how WWIII will begin. It nearly began by accident when the Ukes hit Poland with an errant missile last year.

Why would Russia use an out dated S300 system when they switched to S400’s and are now modernizing to S500’s. As well, they are anti missile system not designed to be used as missile for ground targets, there pretty week for that purpose. That is either an obvious error by the journalist or it Ukraine bombing more citizens as they are the only one in the country to use them, leftovers from soviet era. Russia is in no shortage of missiles or precision glide bombs.

The Russians are not forced to do anything. They could go home and all of this would end. It is amazing how some people put no moral responsibility for this war on the Russians who started it.

Actually:

Russians managed to hit a chemical plant near Pavlohrad, where 38 old soviet RT-23 ICBM with tonnes of rocket fuel were stored for decommission. The explosions damaged a nearby residential areas.

A related comment, that Pavlohrad officials say there is no [current] chemical danger.

Seriously, just why do the Ukes have massive piles of ammo stored at just one location?

Because their logistics system is run by military bureaucrats that continue to use Soviet methods for handling supplies: dump [literally] everything in one convenient place.

You’re not being honest if you go around saying Russia started this war. At best you’ve got no idea and are speaking out your arse. At worse, you’re a paid actor.

Ukrainian outlets report that dozens of cruise missiles have been fired from 17 Russian strategic bombers.

Train station seems like it was the target. Reports of Russia striking a shipment of AD assets does seem to fit the recent developments of Russia focusing heavily on degrading Ukrainian air defenses.

It is a total 100% lie to suggest that anybody other than Vlad the Invader militarily seized and annexed Ukraine territory, with no serious justification.

Why anyone would want to believe such a ridiculous lie beggars all comprehension.

Are you sick in the head?
Are you being paid?
Just what the h*ll is wrong with you, FRiend?

Maybe you’re unaware that the Nork invasion of South Korea was entirely avoidable. Or that the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was also avoidable. Same w/ the Russian invasion of Ukraine: U.S. diplomacy could have stopped all of them but did not, either from stupidity, willful ignorance, or, as clearly is the case with Ukraine, duplicity.

“arms depot” - that is the older initial guestimate, later corrected to being the Pavlohrad Chemical Plant, hit by Russian rockets.

The Russians have been using S300 missiles in their ground attack mode for months now. It is exactly because they have lots of them in stock and not much need for them as SAMs. They are expendable.
