Get ready to start simmering with rage.
Gas stoves will soon become toast in New York, under a controversial new handshake deal between Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul and Albany lawmakers that would make that state the first in the US to ban natural gas.
The pending budget deal mandates all new buildings under seven stories be fully electric by 2026 with larger structures following three years later.
While Hochul hailed the plan as a way to fight climate change, average New Yorkers said it was not so hot of an idea.
“Kathy should mind her own business and get out of our kitchens,” Yas Kantakis, a resident of Sutton Place, told The Post.
“Now she’s in our kitchens first, our bedrooms will be next. Why would somebody come into your private home and tell you what to do? We’re not communist yet – we’re getting there – but it’s just an insult.”
Albany Democrats are expected to approve the electrification push as part of a $229 billion spending deal struck nearly a month past an April 1 deadline.
Critics say the upcoming state ban will drive rising energy costs while depriving many New Yorkers of their right to beloved gas stoves in future homes.
A February Siena College poll found just 39% of registered voters support banning all fossil-fuel burning equipment for new family homes by 2025 and all construction by 2029.
And the construction industry is particularly concerned about how the change, which would exempt restaurants and other commercial establishments, might upend the economy of building just as New York continues recovering from the disruptions of the pandemic......

CAN NEW YORK VOTERS RECALL their bad choices???
Just like a bridge to no where. It’s an energy plan to no where.
There are still some smart, wealthy people in New York.
Most of them, like many before, will seek refuge in the Free State of Florida.
I never include in their calculations all the coal that has to be burned in all the minerals mind to make all that green finery and if the structure required to provide them that electricity
Here comes another wave of people to my state that are too lazy to maintain their own.
The liberal view, is that “fracking” being used to drill or mine for natural gas, is bad for the environment.
Natural gas is a clean burning fuel, but that doesn’t matter to the enviro extremists.
...but the mean tweets are gone.
I remember during the early stages of this overhaul of society, they promised that cap-and-trade would increase the price of gasoline 5 to 10 cents per gallon (in California), and the people said “well, that’s not so bad, I’m for it”. And then the screws start to turn
(a bit off topic, but a good example of how they operate)
RELAX, no one is going to take your gas stove away...until you need to replace it, remodel, or build something new.
And the thing is, this is only the BEGINNING.
Well, this looks like a challenge to idiot California Gov. Newsom - who has vowed to do the same thing.
Who will be first? I suspect California will beat New York and ban natural gas first.
CAN NEW YORK VOTERS RECALL their bad choices???
—
No because they are Democrats, and they know GOP people are evil, so no recall needed as it would only egg on GOP evil.
I am originally from New York. Its the American version of East Germany.
Next up - NY banning all importation of NG, rendering existing stoves and heating inoperable.
New York has neither initiative nor recall. New York has referendum only for bond issues.
Recall?
We can’t even manage free and fair elections.
...just 39% of registered voters support banning all fossil-fuel burning equipment for new family homes by 2025 and all construction by 2029.
The rest of the reliable Demagogic Party supporters in NYS have been dead for years, and weren't available to pollsters.
Well then, there it is - Vote Democrat and fix this issue!!!
The lefties are getting on to these recalls - like they did with vote fraud.
The sane citizens of Los Angeles have been trying to recall criminal-friendly DA George Gascon - but every single time the petitions have been presented, there is ALWAYS something wrong with the signatures and the “committee” ALWAYS finds “not enough valid signatures” - this has happened at least twice. Not sure if there is even a third petition, the system is so rigged now.
These peasants need to shut up and do what their betters have decided for them /s/
